What are these two goofs going on and on about? It appears the Cubs took back Distella? And Maddon, the super manager, said all will be fine. But Dan and Barry are going on and on how the organization is all sorts of pissed off. Messages are being sent. There has to be something done to him organizationally. Blah. |

You (and MANY others) need Barry-atric surgery. It would involve the implanting of a restrictor plate in your ears to prevent you from hearing Barry Rozner. Only then will the healing begin. For my part, I'll just jab my eyeballs out to prevent me from reading his articles in the DH. |

Waddle & Silvy are anal-lyzing this as well. They are going back to the Rizzo interview on Kap's show. You have to laugh that the big issues facing the Cubs (as deemed by sports talk radio) are a guy that won't report to minor league camp and a DJ who played an inappropriate song. I'd contend they should focus on the bullpen, but hey, life is good for Cubs fans. |

Now Len is on to tell us all it is ok because you know... Extenuating circumstances. But Barry and Dan will ask the tough questions. |

Lenroids- an extremely painful and long lasting disease of your anus. It is contracted by letting a pandering beta male plant his lips on your buttocks day after day. It can also be transmitted by listening or viewing said beta male over an extended period of time. Lenroids can only be cured by syncing your radio sound to the satellite or cable broadcast of Chicago Cubs games and never again hearing the sweet kiss ass sounds of Kasper the friendly Dolt. |

Yeah I've mentioned several times throughout the years here on the board about how Len has really soured on me. |

yesterday bernsie was talking about "see? this is what happens when you bring in a guy like chapman.." what happens? this is the stupidest story on the planet. rozner wasted an entire column on it but noone wants to hear what he has to say. if someone told me, hey if you bring in a guy that hits 105 mph you may have to fire the dj, i'd be like who cares. |

I liked him with Brenly. They grew on me and were ok. I sense that Len does not like JD, and their broadcast comes off choppy. Furthermore, Len has revealed himself to be a kiss a$$ hack unable to speak honestly about the Cubs. It comes through in radio interviews, during telecasts, and in his DH columns. He was another one of those guys (like Rozner) who said the scary thing about the Cubs playing .700 winning ball earlier in the year was not all the guys were playing well. What both failed to mention was that several were playing well above their heads, most notably Arrieta and Zobrist. I went back and looked, Zobrist had a .350 average at the end of May. You don't get to keep and bank all the hot guys, and then let all the cold guys get hot. Not the way baseball works over 162 games. KISSES ASS JUST FINE |

There's a Len Kasper in just about every market in the majors. (With Jason Benetti, Chicago now has two.) Naively, I should like to think we deserve better than an assembly-line Professional Talkin' Guy here to blow sunshine up your ass. Interesting that in New York, where everything's better, the Mets have a franchise-long tradition of broadcasting excellence (picking up from the Dodgers with Vin and Red Barber) while Yankee games have been called by a wide variety of dopes since they fired Mel Allen. (Jim Kaat is pretty good.) The Mets have never had a color commentator on the radio, only rotating play-by-play men, and they've all been among the best. |

"tommy distella" was the alias that tommy lastella used when he was on the lam hiding out from the (iowa?) cubs police that were out in full force looking to enforce his 2-4 week sentence in AAA/Iowa. much like monsanto, i hear that the cubs have "representatives" driving black windowless vans who often have full tactical armor and military-grade-weapons requisite for corralling any and all "wayward prospects." what part of THE PLAN(TM) convinced you that they were fucking around when it came to winning the world series BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY?! =D |

I agree with Spmack. Len has kind of become a douche. First few years he's feeling it out trying to make friends. Now Len feels comfortable and like a made man so his true personality comes out. Len is gonna be around for another 20 years at least. I can tell his bosses love him. Which is Len's number one job. Make sure they love you. |

KISSES ASS JUST FINE You are missing Fowler in that list, who was the single biggest reason for the big start. Adding to the list of reasons to hate Five Head Len, he loves to put himself out there as a sabermatrician, while only being a guy who can parrot other's work in the field. I also don't like him because he of that self serving piece he wrote about his ADHD where he also included the family and relationships he had to give up to perfect his work as a broadcaster, as if it took late hours of practice |

Post subject: | Re: 8/17: No Way Tommy |
I thought about adding Fowler. He had a high on base percentage when the Cubs first acquired him. So his current .392 OBP matches well with what he did in the three years before the Cubs acquired him. He actually had a down OBP for the Cubs in 2015. But you are correct. He was way over his head through May. I was aghast at the Rozner article and I think I mentioned it here. He wrote something like, "the Cubs are on a historic pace, and they're not even playing their best baseball". Well sure Heyward was and still is below career numbers, but they had MANY who were way above career norms. No team will ever have an entire roster playing way over career norms for an entire season. It was just a non-sense Theo sucking piece. The Cubs are a solid, deep team beating up on a lot of crappy teams. There is no doubt that they are built to be the best regular season in baseball this year. The question for me as a die hard fan is, are they built to beat a team like the Giants in the seven game series where they will see Bumgarner and Cueto for the majority of games? It's really all that matters now. |

Grote texted me to post this Fan Graph ranking for you guys. I like the way Fan Graphs can't spell "traditional" correctly. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2016-bro ... s-tv-10-1/ 4. Chicago Cubs Main Broadcasters: Len Kasper and Jim Deshaies Ratings (Charisma/Analysis/Overall): 4.1, 4.4, 4.4 Three Reader Comments • “Both [Kasper] and JD are quite analytically curious, and they find unique ways to incorporate it into the broadcast without alienating the more tradtional and/or casual fans.” • “It often just sounds like two laid-back pals having fun at the ballpark. They don’t know everything, nor do they claim to know everything. If they want to learn something, they will immediately look to Twitter for fan response during the broadcast.” • “JD keeps giving material to @DeshaiesQuotes on Twitter. And God said it was good.” Notes Yesterday, the author noted the decline of interest among FanGraphs readers in the Houston television broadcast, now ranked 16th after having occupied fourth place when this same exercise was conducted four years ago. The difference for the Astros in the meantime? The departure of Jim Deshaies. Deshaies is now employed by the Cubs, joining Len Kasper, himself having already exhibited a real comfort with advanced metrics before Deshaies’ arrival. As a pair, they’re particularly well-equipped to comment on a club that has become excellent largely on the strength of progressive ideas. |

Kasper is okay, nothing special. Needs a real home run call. JD is good. They're both nerds though. Nothing cool about either of them unlike Hawk who is a badass. |
