ooooh yeah goff is in "rare form" talking about how he just found out that the NBA only started testing for weed in 1999. Given what i've read about the racial stereotypings on the show lately you figure that bernstein would offer up "40s blunts and newports" but hey, go figure that goff is on point with his caricatures in such a way that everyone can feel safe in nodding agreement with him cuz it's a balck dude saying that (you know, just like robin quivers on the stern show back in the day)

anyways, dan's actively cheering on the gentrification @ madison and western right now, which leads me to cackle and wanna tell you about some fun stories i had @ jackson/western back in the day, but hey i'll leave the storytelling to the professionals.... plus trump is cutting funding to "the arts" so you know.... GODDAMN YOU TRUMP!!

"that changes in one street... if you drive down north... lake street... man. garfield park... the conservatory" while goff is talking about dating a girl from oak park re: "the other side of austin" and it's like "wow, it's like i'm listening to two yuppies from deerfield/evanston here" =P

2016:

California to Damen from Lake to 290:
16 shootings 7 homicides

1999:
35 shootings 4 homicide (23 of those shootings were in Rockwell Gardens)

Yeah, big change!

also, re: the stephen jackson story about smoking weed b4 [NBA] games.... man, i can tell you from personal experience that you ideally wanna play basketball when you're coming down from the high, cuz while i might not have "shot 2 or 3 over the backboard" like captain jack i can attest that you'll end up overthinking the deal if you're too stoned out there!

oooh and nice shot goff... does that mean you got the message/s? =P

yeah btw i always assumed that the NBA wasn't testing for weed back in the 90s when, example, damon stoudamire was getting caught by airport security trying to get an ounce of weed wrapped in tinfoil through their scanners/checkers/whatever! #JailBlazers represent!

This is the kind of show I want to hear. Not the fake outrage or shouting down callers.

As for the Madison and Western improvment talk, just another suburbs guy speaking about the "mean streets" of the city.

Everybody knows the dangerous blocks are not representative of the whole city. That is just more bluster from LordCheeto.

I know very little about specific city intersections or neighborhoods. But I did get a great view of Madison for many years as I used it as my Ike alternate coming home from UIC. I learned to keep my windows rolled up to avoid the insults of driving through certain neighborhoods, enjoyed dodging tremendous sinkholes and those temporary metal street covers, and enjoyed watching cops fly up the curb and throw men up against the walls.

I didn't go past Western and Madison very often because the Ike typically backed up where it narrows to three lanes around Austin.

Furthermore, the west side might be worse than it was when Danny was a little boy. Cleaner? Maybe, safer? No.

The near west side has been completely redeveloped from the highway out to Ogden. Beyond that, I just don't know. Long live West End Bar.

if "insults" are the worst things you gotta avoid driving through certain neighborhoods than i think you've got a pretty decent case of #WhitePrivilege going on...

see above =P

(btw this isn't meant to be seriously damning stuff here, just having fun with a term that's being thrown around pretty liberally these days =)

I've not been to the Garfield Park Conservatory but I've meant to for some time. Worth it?

It was better but after they knocked them down they are putting up "low rises." So, it was fine for a while, but now as they build more project housing, it's getting bad again. All the gangs are reestablishing territory. Adams and Leavitt, Adams and Western are particularly bad.
