Well the game and post was on so I listened to Waddle and Silvy late at work and then the gym. They had a good show. While I am not a fan of those two it was smooth, decent and they had a real guest. Rather than some rag writer or other stat dope they had Mike Tirrico talking football and Augusta for a half hour. It was nice not to hear dumb long questions and have to be told what everyone's twitter handle is.

Came home now and fired up the score. I have Larry and Bernsie felating the Cubs and arguing over how the velocity of Babe Ruth's homer was today.

I have said it before but couldn't pull the trigger but with this all summer and Cub slurpage I am going to have to retire the Bernsie and anyone show. The velocity they should care about is how fast I and possibly other fans are exiting.

You've been whining about everything for like the last two months. I didn't realize you were a beta.

One of the more worthless meters of the past few years. I care where the ball ended up, not where it started. Leave hard outs in the dustbin of moral victories.

They had to find something after the marginally interesting at best "barely home runs" statistic.

Has there ever been sports jargon more tailor-made for Senor than "exit velocity"? Not only would "speed off the bat" be perfectly sufficient, it's actually clearer to say "off the bat" than "exit," because the ball isn't necessarily leaving a place, e.g. the defined boundaries of the ballpark.

These last few years (the metrics era) are tailor made for him. He can pretend to discuss and MLB game, player or situation without having to watch or analyze any of it.

Yeah he's hooked. Out of town guy who soaked up the worst of B&B at the end. He's a lifer. He'd listen to Bernsie and Kermit the frog even if Ms Piggy was sitting on Bernsie's lap.

In golf they simply call it ball speed.

Ten years ago in baseball we simply called it hitting the ball hard, fairly self explanatory with no pretensions

Yeah it is like a bad girlfriend you want to act the way they used to. I am going to give it a solid try with W&S. It really is made easier by the Cub preempting now. After Meat and Parkins (maybe after some trannies) I am out.

We all know Bernsie can't operate without those.

I am still giving it a whirl. I was quite upfront about turning the show off in the Penn State era. But I am going to give it a legit shot to settle in. The early returns are not great, but I am hoping baseball season will make it a better listen.

I use to look forward to every football season when Bernstein would have a new phrase of football lingo he'd shoehorn into every interview or discussion.

The QB needs to ID the Mike!!!!

Post subject:  Re: 4/6 Exit Velocity

I remember when I was in college or recently graduated and I hadn't listed to Boers & Bernstein for a real long time. This was probably '05 or '06. I called in and asked a question about Lovie Smith's defense (Lovie was fairly new). I asked if he ever sent more than four or if his style was just to rush four every time. Bernstein went into some nonsensical rant about zone blitzing schemes and Bill Cowher and I think he even made a Kevin Williams reference in there somewhere if I remember correctly.

they should really make it a three man booth. Putting Cowley in there would seriously make for a great show. It's kinda...mild now. They can't do a lot of their old bits (although sometimes they do, it's confusing) Jason is just not as quick and funny as Terry was in the heyday, and Dan is too subscribed to the Cubs to be seen as objective about them anymore, other than his quickness to point out playoff unpredictability.

A lack of comedic timing.
