I know it's been discussed. This deserves it's own thread. Don't yell at me. But we're gonna get the storm tomorrow. All the SCORE people will be saying how Thom Brenneman should be fired. Terry used this nickname for quite some time. I think it was for some producer. Larry says he adores Terry. Bernstein never told him not to say it. Nor did Goff or drinky. Nor did management. It's just funny to me. Nobody at the SCORE will acknowledge that this happened with Terry. Nobody. They'll have Terry on as a guest and gush over him. Like they've done since he retired. |

i wasn't around for this . missed the whole bernstien/terry era. what was this slur about? Terry would use to to slur gay people or people who he thought were gay? Need more context here. |

It’s kinda like when wrestlers from other companies would come to the WWF in the 80’s and 90’s and they wouldn’t even acknowledge their past |

Interestingly, Bernstein didn’t go hard on Brennaman, though he surely anticipated the pushback he’d get if he went with his default take of (safe) righteous indignation. Didn’t even mention it until 10:30, which itself is very telling. He even generically referenced things he said on B&B in 2001, 2003, things that were once allowed but now aren’t. And once again, we were reminded that he’s “evolved”. I’m sorry, but that’s a bunch of shit. There’s no way he didn’t know f** was offensive in 2003. As a high schooler in the mid-90s, I knew better than to throw that around. I was curious how Bernstein would handle this. It’s a pretty big story and it would’ve been weird if it was ignored. Of course, I knew he couldn’t resist getting his licks in, even in a muted way. But he read the room enough to know he couldn’t go full SJW. But his roundabout way of explaining away Count Fagula, et al. was just as weak as Brennaman’s oops-I-got-caught apology. Worse in a way, because Dan wraps his kinda sorta backdoor explanation in sanctimony, when the premise itself is just patently false. |

count Fagula was one hunnert percent meant in jest and taken as such by the producer who wore the moniker. Having said that, two bright funny guys like B&B could have had just as funny nicknames without resorting to that. |

"Thom Brennaman's Travel Tips" would have become a Boers & Bernstein emailer nom de guerre had this happened in 2008. |

But by Dan's standard, it was and IS reprehensible. And Dan trying to inoculate himself from any future criticism by saying he/society didn't know how hurtful that was in 2003 is ridiculous. Like it was 1973 or something. And a thoughtful, introspective, sensitive, historically astute guy like Dan knew better back then. I thought the whole thing was funny because it was in jest, but I also remember thinking how crazy it was that the station allowed it. So either he knew it wasn't ok but didn't care, or he's more of a dimwit than he'd care to admit. Ace Rothstein-style, either way, he's out. |

It was drinky’s high-pitched naivety along with the fact that “diddling” is slang for child molestation that pushed it over the edge. |

Bernstein: I have evolved. That's wonderful, Danny. Where is the apology, though? He analyzes how others don't give proper apologies. Yet he's never given one at all. So fuck him. Grandstanding hypocrite. And I don't think he's evolved. I think he just now knows what he can't say on the air. |

And even more distasteful, knows how to shame others and appear virtuous, which is the real indignation. Ok - stop with the insensitive slurs. But don’t shame me and brush off your past as having been ignorant on account of society. What an ass take that is. |

Actually, the more I think about it, I’d think he would’ve/should’ve formulated a plan for all of this before wagging his finger. He didn’t think it through. Or maybe he did, and thought this would suffice. It’s weak, and doesn’t cut it. But maybe it is enough. Maybe the majority of his audience probably know or care about the stuff we’re discussing. And we clearly continue to listen, so we’re the chumps, I guess. I just wish he wasn’t such a hypocritical, borderline-cowardly panderer. And I wish more people would see him for what he is. |
