Caller Bob wrote: It's sad how many people don't understand simple economics Agreed, that's messed up: Victor Wembanyama worth at least 3x $12 million to the NBA worldwide. |

Well the NCAA women's final had twice the ratings of Sunday's Masters so obviously Caitlin is worth 2x the winner's prize money of 3.6 million. |

it would be interesting to pay players based on any given games ratings. in any case, theres a place for the WNBA. baseball sucks and nobody wants to watch the type of girls that would play football. the wnba might not turn a profit right now, but its the only professional sport that women have to look up to. if it gets more women to want to go out and drink, im all for it. |

There is no case for the WNBA. This is no Magic-Bird phenomenon. No one will care after the first week of the upcoming season. |

Where do people think the money comes from? Do they think it's like a grade that a teacher gives you on a test? Caitlin Clark will make more money when WNBA advertisers pay more money and ticket buyers pay more money. |

Well, they don’t make any money, right? But, that's--they’re a nut, right? |

It would be a great time for the WNBA to finally turn a profit. They won't and it won't be reported. All the recent advertising deals for the players is a gift, entirely unearned. What were the numbers like for games not played by Clark? She's a curiosity. People are watching her...for the moment. Women's soccer has to be jealous but they will get their moment of inflated worth during the summer olympics. |

again what else do women have? I see it at the gym, there is only one sport that high school girls even try to train for. basketball is the only thing they can at least pretend to have a chance of a career at. back in the 80s, the NBA wasn't doing financially well. all caitlin clark has to be is like wilt chaimberlin, and then we need a magic johnson and micheal jordan type players and then ronda rousey somewhere at some point to really grab the attention of grade school girls everywhere, and then the WNBA will be no laughing matter. |

Not only are you right and it has become expected many think it should be a lifetime lottery ticket. How many times have you heard that a pro player should/needs to get a huge contract to set them up for life? Hi, I am Joe Blow and I was a reserve forward in the NBA or a right guard in the NFL for 6 years. I am 29 and retired completely. Sure, get it if you can but it isn't normal. |

the average NFL career lasts maybe 3 seasons and to even get to the NFL you've avoided learning any other marketable skill other than football: if you don't catch on as a coach or media personality after your 3.3 NFL seasons you're fucked. Something like 1 in 20 NFL draftees last a decade or more in the NFL. It's a brutal league. Maybe only MMA and Cartel Russian Roulette leagues among pro sports take more and return less in exchange for the participants sacrifice to the sport. |

Sports is just the structure through which they entertain. Caitlin Clark will generate more money for the league if she can create some juicy rivalries than if she scores a lot of points. |
