I'm going through and uploading whatever clips I have that Kid Cairo and others haven't archived for us already.

11/30/06 WYC: just a pretty standard-issue WYC: if not the first one I ever listened to, it was the first I thought to save.

Terry Lets the Chef In

Sam Rosen: the "THEY HAVE TWO KINDS OF HERRING, BUT NOT THE HERRING I LIKE" bit.

Die Sox White Fan

I'll get to more later.

I started uploading clips during Covid while going through an old laptop. I think they've gotten lost in the YouTube shuffle as Kid Cairo and other user videos are older and obviously have more views. My uploads are more long-form, even some full-shows. I still have quite a bit to upload and will get to it more as the year goes along.

Sports Nuts and Killer George

I didn't immediately recognize that filename in the archive. Most of them aren't even named. Ah yes, that's why I named and saved it. I lost whatever old email account I was using back in 2009, so I can't prove it, but if I wasn't the person who gave Dan the tip to go check the George update from that morning, I was definitely a person. Also enjoy the trivia contest where no one knows the answers to the questions.

 Never knew Bernstein had a bigger cult then Justin Fields. Cry me a river. The guys an ass and was taken out by a social media troll over a fucking fish!

Never liked him or understood why he was so popular in Chicago. After Boers his show was garbage.

But, fan how you want to fan. I just find it pathetic.

Well, I have some great news, then: I didn't save anything after 2012.

Some of their best content came from when they'd go over whatever bizarre thing Les did the night before. Them having fun playing audio of an exasperated Adam Harris trying to explain to Les why Pluto wasn't a planet anymore was legendary.

Les was a good enough sport about it to make it fun so it never came off as mean spirited. Quite a bit different from when the HFC played a bit trying to poke fun at Murph and he decided to not play along and torched the relationship with Terry and Mac over it.

There was an exchange in that where it was like

"YOU CAN'T JUST SAY PLUTO IS STILL A PLANET LES YOU'RE NOT EVEN AN ASTRONOMER!"
"Are you?"
"no..."
"Then chill out."

which basically anticipated this meme:

Does anyone have the QOTY episode where we had Les's famous "and the horse that rode in on him!"

Looks like Kid Cairo is back at it. Maybe I can step aside!

I wish I did. That and Terry bobbling his Mitch Albom dig, something like "if I were on fire, I wouldn't piss on him."

Yeah, it was unfortunate that relationship turned sour. I remember Terry and Murph actually kidding each other with random “I hope Murph’s not listening” and “I hope Boers isn’t listening” when they would say something suggestive.

As for Les, some of my favorite memories were him remote at Wrigley and being teased by HFC. It was brutally funny but seemed like all parties knew it was in good fun.

I'm going to upload the Ed Farmer Soundalike Contest and a couple of Friday Fungs (Tales of Laziness, and a weird combination of Favorite Movie Villains and Annoying English Errors) later.

Friday Fung was my favorite segment.

It makes me miss Terry a lot more. He was a great writer, too. I am still sad that the Trib took away his column.

These clips just make me sad that Dan decided one day he wanted to do serious radio. He clearly never wanted to do Friday Fung, QOTY, Tournament of Bad, or WYC. We learned pretty quickly into the Bernstein & Goff era that Terry was the driving force behind all of those.

I don't know about that. Friday Fung was very much a Bernstein bit: the throughline on most of Friday Fung was that Dan's reach exceeded his listeners' grasp. I mean, I just listened to an Ed Farmer Soundalike Contest where most of the impressions were just a guy saying "hi, I'm Ed Farmer" and hanging up. Half the people didn't understand Live Ringers. No one understood Sports Apologies. When people got the bit, it was hilarious, but there were some real stinkers. Tournament of Bad was very much Dan's idea, too, because I remember him coming up with the idea in real time.

That said, I do think he tried to shed too much of what made Boers & Bernstein work. Maybe some of that was Jason. But all that went away in favor of "What's On," a segment where they told you what they were going to watch on TV.
