Tomorrow should be interesting. Lots of bad Bears calls and I'm sure a Bernstein family story, on how he explained the shooting to the little Bernstein's

Jason obviated the need for a discussion by explaining the greater sociological forces that precipitated the shooting before they could even get everyone in the room.

This will be on hell of a brutal show tomorrow, folks.

BernSTINE will be extra condescending to callers who dare ask questions and voice concerns about the Bears.

Bowen will be on to Mike Backer BerSTINEs loads all over the microphone.

It's gonna be a real doozey!

I look forward to Dan fighting off strawmen to absolve every high-ranking Bears official of any responsibility.

"People think Virginia McCaskey is issuing business directives through her knitting work like a football Madame Defarge. Well, I have some news for you!"

I'm hearing people blame Ted Phillips. What does Ted Phillips have to do with this. And Phil Emery. He. Is. Not. The. One. Who. Isn't. Firing. Lovie. But this isn't on Ted Phillips or Virginia McCaskey. But he won't fire Lovie and shouldn't. Why should they fire Lovie? How does punitively firing him guarantee that the next coach is better? And I really don't want to hear anyone blame Jay Cutler. Jay's arm is periodically controlled by an alien from outer space named Fanarbuprax who makes him throw untimely interceptions.

These are actual excerpts from Bernstein's column. In other words, he thought it was acceptable to write them, and some editor thought it was acceptable to publish them.

He also mentions that Bears fans are stupid and assigns blame to absolutely no one. Bully!

The editor is Adam Hoge, who is a fill-in for fill-ins and, having graduated from Wisconsin, *The Score's Big Ten Expert* whenever a segment needs to be spent on the latest victim of Big Ten Manifest Destiny. Somehow I do not think that he and Dan Bernstein have a traditional editor/columnist relationship!

Curious Hair, just stop.

You've already won Poster of the Year.

Dan's not coming in tomorrow. He's too busy savoring his kids putting their shoes on, walking around the house and dreamily gazing out a window.

I heard a little of Adam Hoge yesterday with either Connor McKnight or Joe Ostrowski. I'm not sure which one it was and it probably doesn't matter. I listened for a few minutes on two different occasions and each time it sounded like they were having a contest to see who could do the poorest job of expressing a thought. Somehow, even though he hasn't worked at WSCR in years, Jessie Rogers won.

Handily.

I think Bernsie gives Hogue the column with the unspoken implication that if Hogue changes so much as a syllable, Dan will emasculate him on the air.

I'd tell that Bernstein. Who does he think he is? Opinions and shit. I'd tell him before he tells you.

In fairness, this one wasn't really that bad, except "their overly-professed enemy" does kinda make me wince. I get it, but it's an ugly pair of modifiers. Dave or Irish Boy can explain it better than I can; they're good at picking these things apart.

I empathize, though, in that when in a rush, my natural tendency is also to write more, not less. This doesn't exactly make mathematical sense to run up a higher word count on deadline, I know, but when you get really good at shit-shooting, it just becomes second nature to daisy-chain your modifiers and mix your metaphors and just go right up your own ass without a care in the world. I wince when I read some of the stuff I've done in a rush. I've taken to having a friend, exceptionally gifted in her terseness, look over the stuff I've had to write lately to make sure I'm not on too many flights of fancy.

*SIGH* Look, again, my guy tells me they're still working on that extension and, uh, eh, rough patches happen to every team, I mean, eh, eh, this kind of thing happened when the great Mike Ditka was here, uh, uh, uh, but again, in point of fact, I believe my guy, and uh, eh, eh, if he says the extension is imminent...uh, but again, for the love of God, you've got injuries, uh, eh, eh, eeeeee, Urlacher out for the year, uh, maybe forever, Hester and Bennett hurt and they weren't any damn good anyway, and a franchise quarterback for the ages trying to do it all himself with just one arm and a broken neck for the love of God, uh, eh, eh, eh *SIGH* I mean I don't know what these callers think Lovie and Jay are supposed to do... it's going to be one of those days, eeeee, do we really have to take any more calls? I just don't think I can take one more dumbass, especially one named Bob... eeeee, eh, uh, uh, but you make I good point, yeah, uh, eh, that sounds about right, Jay just isn't responsible for those interceptions, uh, eh, eh, I didn't watch the game, but my guy says they should have been caught.

Lovie is now getting fired, so they're going to claim victory on the "Emery is in charge" front.

Not that I don't think they're right. George is a different McCaskey. Really nice guy but the kind of guy who would allow his GM free reign.

I would also expect an attack on the Cowboys for letting Josh Brent on their sidelines yesterday.

someone should call in and ask with the current collapse if there is any reason Emery would bring back Lovie for another season. If they say no, then I'd love to see their response when Lovie inevitably is brought back for one more try with the current cast.

They wouldn't say no. That's too absolute. You'd just get "you can't say with certainty that there's no reason, I mean, this is Emery's choice, but it's not. Emery's. choice."
