Post subject:  4/23: Bernsy's Struggle with Perfection

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/04/22/ ... fect-game/

Submitted above is a link to Bernsy's latest column which you can find at boersandbernstein.com, as well as The SCORE's page at CBSchicago.com. Bernsy tells his own struggle with Philip Humber's date with perfection Saturday afternoon in the White Sox' 4-0 shutout win over the Mariners in Seattle. He talks about "MLB on FOX" commentator and onetime former Cub Eric Karros referring to Sox third baseman Brent Morel as "Brent Moral" among other things. I'm sure Humber's date with perfection, not to mention the White Sox sweep of the Mariners will be a topic of discussion this afternoon among other things on the "Boers & Bernstein Show". But wait...There's more.

The Cubs lost another series, this time to the Reds and dealt CF Marlon Byrd to the Red Sox over the weekend. The Cubs are already 7 games out in the NL Central cellar as the World Champion Cardinals visit Wrigley for three starting tonight. I'm reasonably sure there will be talk about that between 1:15p-ish & 6p as well.

Also, Game 6 of the fairly even looking Coyotes/Blackhawks' series happens at 8p this eve at United Center, and once again, Phoenix can punch their ticket for Round 2 if they win leading the series 3-2 despite Chicago's 2-1 OT win in Game 5. Andrew Shaw is back from suspension, but Marian Hossa won't play again this eve as the scene shifts back to the Madhouse. Can the Blackhawks force Game 7 Wednesday night, let alone win this game with going to OT? The series has already made history with all 5 games going OT for the first time since the 1951 Stanley Cup Finals.

Also, there's the matter of the Bulls. They're coming off a big home win over the NBA Champion Mavericks, complete with Derrick Rose coming back from a right foot/ankle injury and not doing all that much in his return. The Bulls are 1 win or 1 Heat loss away from clinching the top seed again in the Eastern Conference with 2 games left. There's also the matter of Ron Artest's elbow of the Thunder's James Harden yesterday in the Double OT Lakers' win over Oklahoma City, and the likelihood that the guy who calls him Metta World Peace will be suspended with the NBA Playoffs right around the corner.

All of that, plus the return of "Who's Your Guy?" with the NFL Draft almost here this afternoon with Terry & Dan B. The game plan is coming up.

Sure it was a perfect game, but it shouldn't really count as perfect since Humber isn't really all that good.

Cubs results don't matter. Believe in Theo. He will deliver Cubs from bad.

Hawks don't matter because hockey playoffs are too random and random sucks.

Bulls win means nothing. But did you see the Heat beat the Rockets last night? Real. Damn. Team.

Leave it to WSOX to clean up the tape and not play Farmio saying the game was at U.S. Cellular Field.

Here's the Monday Game Plan with Terry & Dan B.:

*3:30p: "The Second Half"
*4p: "NFL Draft: Who's Your Guy? (Part 1)"

"Scoreboard Updates": Connor McKnight
Producers: Matt Abbatacola & Jason Goff

Terry's "two favorite words in show business", Laurence "Mr. Multimedia" Holmes, follows the guys at 6p as always. Chris Rongey follows at 8:35p with the White Sox Radio Network pregame in advance of White Sox/A's at "Mount Davis" as Ed Farmer calls Overstock.com Coliseum. After the Sox & A's wrap, Les Grobstein & Adam Harris have "SCORE Overnight" complete with "Bum of the Week" until 5a tomorrow.

Speaking of believing in Theo, I have heard Bernstein say that it doesn't make sense to sign a productive 1B to huge money because it's more logical to sign a cheaper one, get good production, and then use the money elsewhere.

While they haven't given Rizzo big money (yet), they did give up their best pitching prospect, and in Boston, Epstein brought in Adrian Gonzalez.

Is this something that Bernstein parts ways on with Epstein since he seems to value more?

To their credit...they just played the real clip in full. Played it twice.

Bernsie's call of a Glendon Rusch no hitter.

Outstanding.

They played Ed Farmer's call, complete with the U.S. Cellular Field reference, as well as the one from ESPN Radio, the Seattle Mariners' flagship with the Safeco Field reference. Interestingly enough, Dave Sims, who called Saturday's "MLB on FOX" game with Eric Karros, happens to be the Mariners' TV voice on ROOT Sports Northwest. It had to be just as awkward for Sims.

The whole, "It's a perFECT-OH" thing is lame.

Quit the radio, Farmio!

No. Why would you think he'd do that? Anybody who saw the play knows that there's no justifying what he did.

Man, you would think the Bulls are the worst team in the NBA this season or a team that should be counting its lucky stars for slipping in with an 8 seed.

Guys, it's OK to say the Bulls are good and might go to the finals....you don't have to constantly shit all over everything just for the purpose of shitting all over the place.

Sigh.....at least Mac and Meat were good again tody.

The funny thing about that statement is that if sports weren't random, then there would be no reason to watch. There are scores of random things that happen in every sport from referee calls, player injuries, funny bounces, unlikely plays, etc, and that is what makes it fun.

If there was no randomness, then a computer would be able to determine the outcome.

The Score's voiceover woman just told me that Ed DeBevic's serves melkshakes. I don't really know what that is.

I'm more shocked that Ed DeBevic's is still in business. I would have thought the over-priced, "Diner" places where they serve you mediocre food and treat you like crap places all went out of business?

I'm more upset with Kidd Russell pronouncing Chicago wrong in "Pulaski Day".

It was actually a reference to an old bit Bob Sirott used to do some 20 years ago on NBC5's "First Thing in The Morning". A bit that longtime NBC5 announcer and occasional weatherman Jim Hill used to do from time to time.
