Post subject: | 5/4: Live from Nick's Uptown |
It's Friday, and the "Bud Light 'Who Needs Two?' Tavern Tour" has Terry & Dan B. broadcasting live this afternoon not far from Wrigley Field. The guys are live from Nick's Uptown, 4015 N. Sheridan Rd., between 1-5:30p this afternoon. Needless to say, the guys will have a lot of ground to cover before they're forced to wrap up 30 minutes early for White Sox/Tigers in Detroit. Speaking of baseball, The SCORE's own Steve Stone checks in from Comerica Park to set the scene for the Southsiders' first visit of the season to Motown at 2p. Since when did John Danks become suddenly bad at baseball? Why are fans staying away from U.S. Cellular Field in droves? Are the Indians, not the Tigers, the team to beat in the A.L. Central after Cleveland took 2 out of 3 from the Sox? Are the Tigers still the team to beat despite a less than spectacular start themselves and a slow start for their high-priced free agent Prince Fielder? Those are some of the questions for Steve. I'm sure Stone will also address the Cubs' closer situation, too. How much longer is Carlos Marmol the closer for the Cubs after letting one slip through their fingers in Cincinnati yesterday vs. the Reds? Might the Yankees be among those interested now that Mariano Rivera's out for the season with a torn ACL shagging fly balls in Kansas City before the Yanks/Royals' game? I'm reasonably sure he has thoughts on Matt Kemp and a Dodger team off to a hot start visiting Wrigley this weekend, too. Is it purely coincidental the Dodgers are winning and Magic Johnson's group is now in charge? Hmmm... The Bulls & 76ers resume their series in Philadelphia tonight in Game 3. We know that Derrick Rose didn't make the trip as he continues to recover from a torn ACL, but did the Game 2 beatdown get the Bulls' undivided attention as the scene shifts to the Wells Fargo Center? Can they bounce back in what might be the biggest game of the Bulls' season tonight? If that's not enough, might the guys also discuss the Heat's latest win over the Knicks that might be the beginning of the end for New York this season as soon as Sunday? Might they also discuss the Thunder's dismantling of the Mavericks that likely ends Dallas' brief fling as NBA Champions? I'm reasonably sure they'll bring those Game 3s to the table as well. All of that and frequent live reports from Dodgers/Cubs and postgame reaction as soon as that ballgame goes final down the street, plus those in attendance can win Cubs' tickets to a "future game" as they say coming up this afternoon. |

I'd like to propose a boardwide moratorium on the "bad at ______" trope. Word-filter it out and replace it with "an incompetent chucklehead," or "burrito." Quote: Since when did John Danks become suddenly burrito?

As long as we can keep "fired from sports." I like the "bad at" when he uses it for shock value to cut through the bullshit with people who refuse to reasonably analyze a player. Like a year or two ago when he asked Zach Zaidman to name players on the Bears roster who he thought were "bad," and Zach pussyfooted for 5 minutes and could not name a single one. |

If you are a frequent listener of this program, that "bad at" term is something the guys mention all the time, regardless of sport & athlete. |

In honour of Adam Yauch I believe the Friday opening should be an homage to the Beastie Boys. What's your best choice for an opening? Sabotage... |

No transition today because of engineering issues between Bull & Bear with Mac & Spiegs and Nick's Uptown NOW. With that in mind, here's what's on tap with Terry & Dan: *2p: The SCORE's Chicago Baseball Analyst/White Sox TV Analyst Steve Stone-Live from Detroit *3:30p: "The Second Half" On-Site Engineer: Mike Peterson On-Site Producer: Chris Tannehill Studio Producers: Matt Abbatacola & Jason Goff The guys are done at 5:30p to accommodate Chris Rongey's White Sox Radio Network Pregame in advance of White Sox/Tigers in Detroit. As soon as Ranger wraps up the "Xfinity Feedback Zone Postgame" from 2 Prudential Plaza this eve, it's another Laurence Holmes' special latenight broadcast from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas prior to tomorrow night's Floyd Mayweather/Miguel Cotto title fight. HBO Sports is making LoHo's Vegas broadcast possible from the end of the Sox/Tigers' game until 1a Saturday morning. |

Oh, and about shutting down on hockey when the Blackhawks are out: this year, I am guilty as charged. I stepped up for Gamecenter this season and I loved having an all-you-can-watch buffet of NHL games. Unfortunately, I have such a filthy taste in my mouth from both the way this season ended for the Hawks and from the general tenor of the league that I am done. Most if not all of the skill teams were bounced in the first round while the system teams have succeeded, mindless violence is running rampant, and the Phoenix Coyotes are still in it. This is not a postseason that I want anything to do with. Last year when the Hawks were eliminated, I took the foot off the gas (though this was partly because I was away from having a TV for a few weeks), but still kept tabs on things and rooted for anyone to beat the Canucks. This year, I just don't care. It's all shit. I haven't watched a single second-round game (though I've also been away from a TV again this year) and I won't watch any remaining games. I guess maybe it wouldn't be so bad if the Flyers won, but then I'm still pretty embarrassed by their series with the Penguins. There's not going to be a happy ending to this Stanley Cup till the day it's announced that the Coyotes have moved to Quebec City, and there's probably going to be a lockout to start next season. What a downer. |
