http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/05/13/ ... -torn-acl/

Submitted above is a link to Dan Bernstein's latest column on 670 The SCORE's page at CBSChicago.com in which the host shares his own tale of how he tore his ACL back in 2002 and how he can relate to what Bulls' star Derrick Rose is going through right now.

After a great deal of post-mortem Friday after a heartbreaking end to the Bulls' season in a 1 point Game 6 loss to the 76ers in Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs and all the tough decisions "GarPax", as he & Terry Boers refer to the Bulls' front office duo of V.P. John Paxson & General Manager Gar Forman, will be facing, I'm not sure there will be much to discuss this afternoon about these Bulls moving forward. Whether or not the guys discuss LeBron James winning his 3rd NBA MVP and the Heat's possibly costly Game 1 win over the Pacers in which Chris Bosh hurt his abdominal strain in the 1st half, the Clippers' Game 7 first round road win over the Grizzlies or other NBA Playoff action with the Bulls out remains to be heard.

There is plenty of baseball on both sides of town. Philip Humber pitched well enough to beat the Royals, but the White Sox offense disappeared and the relief trio of Matt Thornton, Nate Jones & Addison Reed allowed 8 runs to score in the final couple of innings as the Sox lost 2 out of 3 again to the Royals at U.S. Cellular Field. A two-game series with the Tigers starts tonight on The SCORE/White Sox Radio Network with John Danks & Drew Smyly in a battle of lefties.

Will the guys also discuss Chris Sale's rough night in the Sox' 5-0 Saturday night loss to Kansas City in his first start since all the confusion regarding whether Sale was a starter or closer surfaced? It was during this program about 10 days ago when Sale's status became a very confusing topic of discussion.

The Cubs head down to St. Louis for 2 with the defending World Champion Cardinals after losing 2 out of 3 to the Brewers in Milwaukee over the weekend. The Phillies are at Wrigley for 2 Wednesday & Thursday before the first series with the Sox to start Interleague play. All of that and who knows what else today after transition with Mac & Spiegs around 1:15p-ish or so.

The compliment you gave him makes me think that you are Bernstein.

But, all kidding aside, I just read the column, and it is pretty good.

I havent read the article, yet

Before I do, how does this not violate Bernstein's long standing "Your injury/high school play is not relavant, these are giant athletes with different bodies " rule?

I was thinking that through 70% of the article and thought it was the biggest WYC ever. He ties it back into Derrick towards the end and says they aren't comparable. It's really well written I think.

I think the idea behind the column is that Bernsy also tore his ACL many years ago. While Bernsy doesn't earn the kind of $$$$ Derrick Rose now earns with the Bulls, he feels he can relate to the Bulls' star and his own pain. I'll be interested to hear if Bernsy's column comes up this afternoon at some stage of today's show.

Read the article.

I will, but there is nothing he can say to make this not violate that rule.

It doesnt matter if he says at the begginning or end, "I know, my body and Derrick's are different"

This whole article would get hung up on, on the B and B show

Why doesnt he just write an article about how He once played football in the cold and it was harder on the guys from warm weather states he was playing with. Then at the end write "I know Bear Weather is a myth, just sayin...."

Pretty much. It was engaging and very well-written (and I'm generally not a fan of Dan's writing), but he writes ~2,000 words about his ACL injury, then ends it with "This doesn’t really prove anything...I could never claim to know what anyone else is going through, and I never would. I only know what I went through." Ok, great. So...this is just a fun story you like to tell?

Just finished the article, and I had a similar opinion to yours after reading. If he doesn't want to come off as comparing his injury to that of Rose's... then why write it in the first place?

I request that we exempt Bernstein from hypocrisy just this once, due to how well-written the article was.

That's like saying "he speaks so well". Sorry Kid, but I'm not with you on this one.

I'm sure WebMD has a discussion board where his well-written story would be more relevant, assuming he "didn't want to compare it to Derrick".

Because it was probably just a coincidence that the Bulls young superstar just underwent the same procedure and Lil Danny decided it was time to write an article about his own knee surgery that is in no way connected to Derrick Rose's. My you guys are cynical.

Good article, but no one cares about your ACL surgery, BernSTINE!

He gives the caveat of "not knowing what anyone else is going through" and "I'm different than Derrick Rose" at the end or whatever.....so with that said he should stop blathering on about it during the show.

Fuckin' BernSTINE.

It is well written as it should, he was an English major.
Noticeable difference in quality to the crap mac puts out in the Trib, now that column is usually thoughtless and very poorly written, but then again Mac is a drunk, not an English major.

I don't like Bernsie. I like the article. He is not comparing himself at all. He's just telling us his story, and it was heart felt. I wish he was more like that on the radio, sincere that is.

The 2 are not mutually exclusive however.

Here's the Monday game plan with these two guys on The SCORE:

*3:30p: "The Second Half"

That's all they've got as things stand now. Terry's "two favorite words in show business", Laurence "Mr. Multimedia" Holmes, has "Xfinity Feedback Zone Live" at 6p for 35 minutes leading into Chris Rongey's White Sox Radio Network pregame live from U.S. Cellular Field in advance of Sox/Tigers.

Yeah, Yeah, ShAARk....we know.

I thought it was a well written article, but I'm sort of a geek for medical shit like this. The 3 things that stood out to me: 1) I can't picture Bernsie being a gym rat. 2) I call bullshit on the "occasional" use of pain meds. 3) He's lucky the mass quanities of Vioxx didn't kill him.

It would be more germane if bernstein compared the time he strained his vocal chord's to Rose's ACL tear.
