Just asking. I know drink was doing all Cubs home games last year. I've noticed over the past month or so it's been David Shuester covering the Cubs games.

More on drink as Cubs reporter to come. Stay tuned to this thread.

I've heard drinky doing a spot for some credit card on the B&B show. Where he says shit like. "I pledge to not shave until the Cubs get to .500" (You're never gonna shave, drinky, if you keep that pledge. Cubs aren't gonna reach .500 this year.)

Look, I know drinky is gonna take the $200 or $300 bucks to do these dumb ass spots. Money trumps credibility. Drink is gonna take whatever he can get. But should he if he looks at the big picture? Do any respected beat reporters do an ad like this? No.

1. Should a Cubs reporter be doing this sort of thing if he wants to be respected? Don't you refuse the sponsor money if you're a reporter? Shouldn't you not come across as a "Fan boy" like he does in these spots if you are a Cubs reporter?

2. Growing a beard until the Cubs hit .500? Isn't that the exact "Meatball" shit that the B&B show rails against? Drink has joined Bernstein in that fight. Now he agrees to play a "meatball" in a comercial? Really? You forfeited your right to call anybody a "meatball" after this, drinky. Just leting you know.

3. Bernstein made a snide remark when drinky was reading this spot. It pissed off drinky. Even Bernstein thinks this is dumb for the exact reasons I mentioned.

They've never had a dedicated "Cubs reporter." It's been a rotation of Matt, Schuster, and Connor for a while.

Doing overnights for Les, producing BB and you want him on the day beat too?

Maybe work 36 hours in a 24 hr day?

Come on Beardown, use the brain

I didn't know he was filling in for Les. Who the hell listens to Score overnights?

But drinky has been producing the B&B show with Shuester at the park. I thought covering Cubs home games was drink's gig. I guess they have to have stuff for Shuester to do.

Even Les Grobstein has to take vacation time, Beardown. Drinky & David Schuster have subbed for Grobber from time to time.

Whether Grobber discusses his vacation "South of the Border" with listeners & executive producer/update anchor Adam Harris, if you know what I mean, remains to be heard...After all, it is radio, you know.

He didn't.

SHARK is a wildly inappropriate reporter.

I was worried about being regaled with a more metaphorical south-of-the-border adventure, and fearing just exactly how it would end with "so much for that."

He was labeled as WSCR's Cub reporter for home games last season. I'm not sure if that was a year try-out or if he is still doing it. I do notice that he does try to inject himself into some of the baseball conversations on the B/B show, much like Jason Goff does as the NBA Insider on the station.

Just thinking out loud. Last year drink covered the Cubs cuz the Bulls made a long playoff run and Shuester was covering that. This year drink started out covering the Cubs and then Shuester took over after the Bulls got bounced early.

If Shuester isn't covering the Cubs and Sox home games, there is nothing for his orange ass to do. Mitch would have to pay him to do nothing. So maybe that's why drink is out.

Might as well ask Frank to give up the ghost w/ the Sox ....

I was right. Drinky is not covering Cubs home games anymore. He's back to yelling at Bernstein for no reason on a full time basis. To be honest, that's the better job if the pay is equal. Especially with this Cubs team.

That's the beauty of the Mitch and Zim Score operation. You can be Score janitor one month, Score producer the next month, Cubs expert the following month and then back to janitor.

Big time radio station, that Score 670.

Zimmerman's management style is clear. From what I've heard of him, he's easy to read. Mac said the Score is his baby and I wouldn't doubt Mac.

Here is how Zimmerman operates:

1. Money makers are the 3 prime time shows. So you have to pay these hosts their worth and care about them.

2. Everybody else at the station is insignificant, interchangeable and replaceable.

3. Placate all of these lower level employees. Throw them bones. Make them believe that you think highly of them. Make them believe they can advance. Keep them on the cheap because they fall for your lies.

4. If any of them bitch or cause problems, fire their ass and replace them with the next dumb ass, wide eyed, frat boy cracker fresh out of college at a starter salary and convince him of the same thing until he starts to bitch. Repeat cycle forever.

THIS IS HOW SPORTS RADIO IN AMERICA HAS A HUGE PROFIT MARGIN.

Score Producers:

Beardown: It's true. Don't shoot the messenger

Score Producers: (Pull out guns and shoot at Beardown anyway)

Beardown: Hey!!!! (Beardown avoids being hit and escapes to safety as always)

CSFMB: Damn!!!! One of these days we'll kill him.

White Women: Don't worry, we'll eventually get him.

Beardown:

If drinky is no longer covering the team I would like to make a request that he not jump on with B&B to talk Cubs. For some reason he believes he's an authority voice on the Cubs and must run to a mic to inform all of Chicago of what he knows and thinks. Which isn't much.

Bernstein has it covered, drinky. Normally you either repeat what he's just said or when you differ with him, you're completely wrong. Same with Goff and that damn basketball talk.

I don't mind when Drinky & Goff jump on with the guys. Those guys may be producing & directing the show, but they can chime in whenever necessary.

I observed the same before. For a guy who presides over a pretty big cluster of pretty big stations in a pretty big market, he's unusually involved with the sports-talker, presumably because this high school writ large requires his executive meddling just to put its metaphorical pants on in the morning. I bet WXRT takes care of its own business comparatively quietly.

Calling it "his baby" is strange, though, since usually that connotes that the person in question has seen a project through from conception to birth to life. This is more Zimmerman's troubled foster child if anything. Let's hope he doesn't rape it in the shower.

Those were Mac's words. I remember the topic of "Who really runs the Score?" came up here and he said "It's Zim's baby" or something like that.

That's funny, because Dan said something last week about how "Rod doesn't even listen to the station" or something. Do you think it really isn't that he's a big sports fan and wants to be involved with sports so much as he doesn't trust the Score's middle management to operate without his direct supervision/intervention?

I think, as Big Fan has revealed through his sources, that Zim likes the power of running the station. He likes to have his Score people fear that they might lose their jobs. He doesn't have to actually listen to the bullshit sports talk. That's not important to a person in his position. Nor should it be. Mitch takes all of the crying and bitching from the rank and file. Mitch handles all of the petty, childish fights from these Score babies. Zim doesn't need to do that shit.

But if he gets off on running a station, why doesn't he run, say, 780? Because it's staffed with longtime professionals and not sports-geek buttmonkeys on minimum wage?

I would imagine Mitch's daily "to do list" would look something like this.

1. Put out the latest fire in the Mac vs. Goff "Da Ma Na" controversy.

2. Lie to the backup hosts and tell them they are improving and that he likes their work.

3. Avoid Bernstein.

4. Tell Zack Zaidman that Terry calling him ugly is just "Terry being Terry" and not to take it personal.

5. Pretend to have and interest in Larry's lies about his life.

6. Tell everybody that the CBS Network sports radio won't effect the Score. Meanwhile, close the door as corporate calls to tell him of the shows he must take on.
