Doing a "GOAT WALK" to Wrigley Field to raise money is definitely not BIG.BOY.CANCER.RESEARCH.FUNDRAISING.

He didn't say raising money was stupid. He said that walking a goat across the country is stupid, and it is.

Im sure that if they had had the foresight to dress said goat in a tuxedo, it would've received the Lil Danny stamp of approval.

One of his points was "big deal they raised $20,000, we raised $20,000 in two weeks on this show!" Good job - you matched them with your 50,000 watt station and hundreds of thousands of listeners.

Yeah these guys are complete idiots, but they're also not hurting anybody. Dan and Terry remind me of people I know that get angry at protestors for protesting peacefully...why not just ignore them and let them do their thing? Laugh at them for being idiots, but why so much vitriol?

The ends justify the means.

He did say raising money by walking a goat was stupid and those involved should be killed in a slow and painful manner.

His premise, that it's stupid to do self-indulgent and financially wasteful crap "for charity," is a valid one, and the National Goat Walk or whatever it was is indeed self-indulgent crap and financially wasteful. But you could argue much the same against having a poker tournament, just as people do against having breast cancer 5ks. If you wanted to go to the logical conclusion, you could say that any charitable event is stupid and self-indulgent compared to just cutting the middle man and collecting money directly for the charity, since it shouldn't take a poker game, running a 5k, or knowing that somewhere in this great nation of ours is a man walking a goat, to raise money for a cause as worthy as cancer.

You need me to explain to you why perpetuating the myth of a curse involving a goat is stupid ?

Dan's funny. The way he frames and pulls an absurd argument into a pseudo intellectual, self gratifying statement on the state of mankind's role in just what is acceptable charity work...

Fuck him... Let him try to find another job... Terry too.

Yeah, upon further deliberation, this was more about just hating that Cubs folklore still exists rather than any statement on the cost-efficiency of charitable organizations. Debates on Susan G. Komen activities generally don't dovetail into why Steve Goodman sucks, after all.

To raise money for charity kind of offsets the stupidity for those of us without tunnel vision.

Just for funsies, try mentally rendering today's Cubs talk in the voices of Mike North and a friend of Mike North.

"ah, dese Cubs faaans, dey gots dere W flegs out'n all'at, just cuz dey wunna game?"
"yeh! an dat goat! dey hads some giiiiy walkin' a goat!"
"whoda dey tink dey are, anyways? singin dat Go Cubs Go song."
"AY. AY WAITA MINNIT. Here's what I cehn't figger out. It says 'da cubs are gonna win today' but DEY ALREADY WON!"
"YEH! dun't even make no sense!"

Truly the thinking man's sports talk.

You can raise the same amount of money with or without the goat. We all know what the goat symbolizes, and it's pretty stupid.

Saying that I have tunnel vision merely for having a different view point than yours is a very Bernstein-like way to undermine an opposing position. Kind of funny coming from someone who claims to hate him so much.

If they each worked at mcdonalds for the two months they could have made the 20k, donated the money, gotten a tax write off and probably have mcdonalds match the amount.

It should be embarrassing to cubs fans. It would be like me getting io konerko et al to throw a game, laying 20k on it, then donating the winnings

By that logic, the Legue boys should be embarrassing to Sox fans. What they chose to do to raise the money is up to them. Maybe they needed the exercise.
Your Konerko analogy falls woefully short. Don't drink and post.

Does any Mcd's pay any employee $5000 a month?

I'm a fan of a baseball team. How the fuck is a dog and pony show conducted by the organization at all reflective of me as a fan?

The more egregious example of this is when bernstein said that fans and players should not celebrate a victory
