Been a long time listener to the station, but the run has run stale and dry, Not even attempts to do anything anymore, We don't need SMARTER SPORTS.

Have to do better or we are going to have to drop the show.

It would be nice to have the slightest bit of production value on this thing.

They got spoiled with Matty and Goff.

Then Tannehill came in and put together some good openings, and thats where the production ended.

How were they spoiled by Goff and Drinky? This show hasn't had any real production since Hood was doing it over 10 years ago.

they need somebody with a sports machine to tell us who will win. Otherwise, what is the point of sports?

You may not have loved friday fung, etc and I am all for trying stuff. Sometime it sucks, sometimes it doesnt, thats what Goff and Matty did.

Quote of the year, Tourney of bad, etc....these guys put all that together. Bernstein had input, but these guys did it. Not telling you it was a work of JEANus, and I dont need it to be, just try it.

Show jumped the Shark a few years ago imo. Bernstein is nothing more that a parody of himself nowadays and goes beyond going out of his way to find sides to things that will piss off the audience for a reaction. Dumb radio that relies on a predictable gimmick.

Terry is ok in my book tho.

Friday Fung topics are just ideas. Something that one of the show guys probably thought of while scratching his anus. The callers do the work. Doesn't require production. Same with WYC, which is a bit stolen from a different show. I've called for WYC and Friday Fung. They just take some info and put you on the air. Tournament of Bad is just a list of annoying pop culture items. And wasn't last year's field partially suggested by listeners?

I imagine production would include a pre show meeting or minimum conference call for 10 mins to get an idea. Probably better to have guys that have skills or unique things they do for the show as producers. Tannehill seems to do his job but really what doe Drinky do to help this show at all? Of course maybe B&B do not allow him to.

I would think that it'd be pretty tough to "produce" this show as the talent doesn't care. While this show could really use an actual producer (one who was able to tell them to move along, after beating a dead horse segment after segment, day after day), I think being the "producer" of this show would be very tough to do.

Can you imagine someone coming in, spending HOURS getting guests and topics and bits and (at least) an outline for the show ready, only to have Dan spend break after break screaming about how people should not be celebrating that little league coach's post game speech? I'm sure you could power through a few days of them just taking a dump on your efforts, but as with anything else in business -- it all starts from the top. If Terry can't be bothered to do anything but stay up on the latest from the gossip side of sports and Dan is too busy trying to be a beacon to actually prepare for the show, how long is a guy making $15/hr really going to hang in there trying?

It's unfortunate, as this show has been, and can be, very fun to listen to -- for me, it's really goes back to Reverend Watkins take on the Cubs......Dan & Terry have not had to do a lot to improve/hang on to listeners, as the Chicago sports radio landscape has simply continued to suck/get worse. I'd say that the world of podcasting has definitely resulted in me listening to less and less of these guys (just more audio options created by guys who actually care to entertain, not enrage with LCD tactics)....but, when it comes to local sports there just isn't a lot of other options. They all provide the same amount of frustration, with very little positive to offset.

Mitch is a big part of the problem there. The producer can't do much to reign in a talent if the Program Director is letting them run wild. Dan berates his callers, insults sponsors, and actively encourages his listeners to go elsewhere. Can you imagine being this guy's boss?

Huh? The sponsors are sacrosanct. In fact, one of his favorite strawmen to justify being a prick is "you say 'I'm a listener, I pay your salary!', but no, you're wrong, the sponsors pay my salary." And then in some office building, David Hochberg kicks up his feet, smiles contentedly, and then calls a client back, addressing him as Whatever The Fuck Your Name Is.

Townstone also goes onto Yelp and berates anyone whi gives them a low rating. Pretty much ties into their mantra.

Okay "insults" was an exaggeration but I would consider giggling through your reads and mocking commercials on your station to be a bit of a faux pas.

meatpants is such a dbag. Takes multiple days off this week, now is going on vacation (for over a week), as he's "been waiting for it all summer!!!"

Incredible! What a twat. They are literally going to unveil the new show while he's on vacation. While I appreciate how richly ironic, and perfect, that is - WOW. He'll be back the Tuesday after Labor Day to kick off his new show.

Who is dumber? Him for not grabbing this opportunity by the horns or the station for not being able to get their crap together quickly enough for him to actually be there when they announce what's to become of McNeil's old show??? What a joke.

I can't stand ESPN, and The Game has sounded absolutely awful each time I've tried --- maybe Webio can make a comeback? Gah!

Agreed.

Pending approval from RFDC, Resident Radio Expert.

It's pretty clear that Dan looks down on the idea of "producing" a radio show. That's one of the things he always made fun of Murph and Mac for: the parody songs, the drafts, the show pot, all of Murph's old bits. It makes sense, since B&B at its best is a postmodern rejection of radio tropes. But then there's B&B at its worst, which is when you show up with nothing intelligent or funny to say, and heaven knows they've had a lot of those shows over the years.

recipe for B&B success:

schedule 2 guests
take a minimum of one caller every segment
"serious" topics get one show - max.
Bob and Mike get one call per month.

As Zizou said earlier, the show was best when Hood was there.

There might be something actually wrong with Dan. WHO is he screaming at about the LLWS?

Jeepers creepers, no one is saying that the kids winning is STOPPING or CURING anything. What people say is that it IS a nice distraction .. and makes residents there actually feel good. About. Something.

He's nuts. yar
