* How LeBron on the cusp of his first NBA Championship is greater than Michael Jordan.

* Terry will giggle and agree.

* When the callers come with anger, another show in the books.

Listen for it.

I'd say that's probably accurate. We'll get about 30 minutes of Dan describing where he was, what he was doing/eating while watching the game, and gushing over LeBron's game. If/when the Heat win the title, that's where we'll have the show where Dan goes fishing for haters by drawing the line in the sand. I'm sure he'll once again announce that if you didn't want to see LeBron win a title then you are not a real basketball fan, which in turn will lead to hours of awful calls that get shotgunned while Dan grits his teeth and Jason cackles.

My attempt this last year to act as if the nba simply does not exist has made it very hard to tune in during the last month. The end of next week is going to be awesome when this shit is done and over with.

I remember when the Score constantly promoted itself as "Chicago's sports station". As opposed to WMVP where you could find out more than you ever wanted to know about the New York Jets. But recently there is precious little Chicago sports talk between 1 and 6.

And the fascination with Sandusky has gone well beyond obsession for li'l danny. It's a nasty crime. There are thousands of nasty crimes every day. I don't really need danny bernstein- or Terry Boers for the love of God- going over each or any of those crimes in excruciating detail. Sandusky is on trial. He'll likely go to jail. I can find that out in an update. It's enough. I'm not sure what the angle on this story is for bernstein. I guess that a bunch of people looked away rather than stopping a popular football coach from ass raping kids. Okay. I'm not sure how much more can be said about that. And his leap that anyone who ever lived in Pennsylvania supports child rape is disgusting in its own right.

And then there's the fawning over LeBron and the general fetishization of the NBA. He's even attempted to promote the NBA by lying about the respective television popularity of college basketball and his own favorite sport. Jason and danny can keep telling themselves this is some "golden age" of pro basketball, but that won't make it true.

Its a pretty good Age.

This Miami Heat thing has been real good for the NBA. I dont know about Golden, but the NBA is probably the most entertaining its been in 15 years for me.

It really hasn't though. It hasn't even approached Kobe/Shaq Lakers yet.

The problem for the NBA now is that the Heat story is over if Lebron wins a title. Who cares if he wins a second or a third? We all know why he's winning them. He's the best player in the league who took the easy way to a title. The story becomes incredibly hollow. Hardcore fans will always be watching but what really happens next year? The Heat win another title, and people say "meh" or they don't win a title and people say "meh, they won last year".

What are you basing this on?

To me the Kobe/Shaq era was terrible for the NBA

The Jordan-LeBron interregnum was as bad an era as any for the NBA. With Iverson, Carter, and McGrady, that was maybe the one time that all that "deez guys out dere don't play none fundamentals as a team!" noise may have had a kernel of truth.

The Lakers were more loved/hated than the Heat. There were more storylines. The Lakers rise and fall was better. The ratings were better.

I am not really sure these NBA playoffs have been that great. Rose got injured so a weak Boston team made the conference finals. The Spurs/Thunder series was a disappointment and now the Thunder seem to be overmatched in the finals.

I think I'd rather listen to Dan's tactical strategies for napalming sections of Pennsylvania than him telling me about the "stuff" Miami run and the whole "thing" that is the Miami Heat. Tough choice but the Lebron knob slobbering is redundant (like many of their topics), unneeded, and pedantic.

Totally disagree. The Kobe and Shaq thing was boring. Also, arent these ratings beating them?

Like you say about the Heat going forward....who cares if they get 2 or 3? That was the Kobe/Shaq fight

I dont think Shaq or Kobe was even close to as hated as LeBron.

LeBron is more hated today, than Kobe was during the rape episode....true story

These ratings are getting closer, but they aren't beating them. If this series goes 7, they might. Most of the Lakers series ended in 4 or 5.

I don't think you are remembering how much people hated the Lakers. I was one of them.

Individually Lebron is probably more hated, but that's mostly because people eventually joined team Shaq or team Kobe.

Maybe it was the post Jordan lull, but I couldnt work up much emotion for the Kobe Shaq thing...especially when it kept going into reruns.

The last time the ratings were higher than this it was the 2004 Lakers, which was the end of the Lakers dynasty that included the Malone/Payton story. Even the other Lakers finals runs didn't do as well.

I don't mind the fetishization of the NBA. It is what it is, y'know? What is annoying is the fetishization of the NFL parallel to railing against the entire sport of football. You can't preach about how CTE is terrible and ruining people's lives and then be like "omg Darren Rovell just tweeted the latest NFL ratings and they're SO AWESOME BIG WOW!" Use the NFL's high ratings to show that people are stupid for liking the league more than ever as it gets more dangerous and more harmful. Don't just be like woooooow the NFL is amazing. Maybe it's not. But that would go against the Score position as Chicago's destination for twice-daily OTA updates.

There seems to be a disconnect between danny's obsession with CTE and his love of NFL football. On one hand he obviously believes that it is nearly criminal to allow one's child to play youth football, on the other he doesn't care if the guys he watches on Sundays knock each other silly. But there's the little matter of where those players come from. At some point, there is no NFL without youth football. Unless he thinks there's going to be an actual vineyard where we grow nearly brainless linemen the way Frank Perdue grows nearly boneless chickens. For all the mocking B&b did of Telander's robots, in a way, it seems like dan would be on board.

The worst part is he is so resistant to change at the NFL level in regards to safety of player, even though clearly those changes trickle down fairly quickly to the other levels. If he really cared about all those "precious brains" he'd want the NFL to ban all helmet to helmet contact on every play.

He doesn't. In fact, he loves it.

Dan has acknowledged his hypocrisy of enjoying the NFL whilst deriding its dangerous violence on more than one occasion.

Yeah and from what we know about Bernstein and who he is, I doubt he thinks anyone who makes it to NFL level has a "precious" brain

Ultimately, the answer may be a different type of helmet and smaller pads. A helmet that protects the skull in some manner but prohibits guys from leading with their heads.

Longshot possibility: maybe Dan doesn't love the NFL like he used to in light of what we've learned, but the Score isn't about to let anyone break bad on the NFL, and so all CTE talk has to be prefaced with "I love watching my social inferiors destroy each other, don't get me wrong, buuut..."

I'm pretty sure that more listeners are turned off by the "letting your child play football is basically child abuse" angle than would be by that.

Not a matter of listener opinion so much as executive opinion. The Score works hard to be The Bears Station in every way but carrying the play-by-play (and really it's kind of odd that CBS puts them on their news station instead of their sports station); in that sense you can't have a major daypart host railing against the NFL or else by definition you're not 110% Bearsy anymore. The Bears can be criticized within the greater context of competing in the league, but you can't just step right out and say the whole damn league's a bloodsport that ruins people's lives in between beer commercials.

CH, there's a reason why 780 WBBM-AM/105.9 WCFS-FM carries Bears' football & not WSCR 670 The SCORE. It was a Bears' decision, not CBS Radio, which owns all 3 stations. The decision dates back to when WSCR took over the WMAQ frequency over a decade ago and the Bears didn't feel comfortable at the time being on an all-sports radio station, complete with constructive criticism they'd thought they'd get if The SCORE inherited their broadcasts from 'MAQ. I don't know if the Bears feel that way now, but they're on WBBM/WCFS, I think until 2014, if not longer.
