Hah that's good if true. It would be impossible to be an NBA fan and hate black people. Who would you cheer for, the 80's Celtics on classic ESPN?

There's this idea they skirted around last week that if you don't like LeBron James, who came out of the ghetto to be a legendary basketball player, it's because you have some deep-seated resentment of black people who do well for themselves against the odds. However, this is a folly, because if you don't like it when black people are successful, perhaps following professional sports is not for you. The implication seems to be that The Community, as represented by Jason, is rooting for LeBron, and so anyone rooting against LeBron is most tastelessly doing so in opposition to black people. Of course, people who want Oklahoma City, the "white team," to beat decidedly not-white Miami are putting their hopes in the hands of a team whose best players are--gasp!--also black. Is Kevin Durant then somehow less black? I don't think so, and I'd hope not, but this show has developed a curious position as an arbitrator of black people's blackness.

If Tim Tebow were a black guy with the same schtick, B&B would be annoyed, but they wouldn't hate him. And they wouldn't have spent as much time over the years making fun of him as they have. If Cam Newton were a devout Christian circumcising orphans and giving sermons, it wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue.

...I would say their "hatred" of Tebow has more to do with his playing ability and less with the religion stuff...the religion stuff is just what they choose to target him with...after all, plenty of players like to make their religious beliefs known and they don't get the same shit Tebow does from them.

There's definitely truth to that. But I also think the seed was planted when he was at Florida and Thom Brenneman went overboard with his praise of Tebow as a person. They locked in on Tebow ever since then and they haven't let up. It's been over 3 1/2 years now.

To some degree, I believe so. He and Terry act as if this guy is some kind of nobody. He was a fuckin' Heisman trophy winner and he easily could have won more than one. He's accomplished more by the age of 25 than dan or Terry will in their entire lives. They're far more obsessed with Tebow than most people. I hardly ever think of the man. How about you?
