He is without question the most intelligent and interesting host. That makes him the most fun to challenge, regardless of him being a jerkstore. Mac is a different kind of host. I see Mac more as a comedy and Bernstein more a serious show. Other than those two though, there are not any regular hosts who illicit reactions in a good way. Admit it, when youre watching games sometimes you think "I wonder what that asshole Bernstein will say about this" No one ever thinks that about Mulligan or Carmen or Fred or whoever the hell else. Just saying. As much as he can frustrate, Dan Bernstein is absolutely essential to the Chicago sports radio landscape |

Agreed. It's to the point that if he ever took another gig national, I'd forego the Score to listen. |

He's the greatest Chicago sports radio host of all time. Mike North may have been more important but Bernstein is Jordan and North is Jerry West. |

It is sad that he is considered by some (rightly so) to be the best Chicago has to offer. I think he is an insufferable human being on many levels. He is arrogant, disrespectful, annoying, self-righteous, and a lot of other negative things. I don't find his sports thoughts to be interesting. When he leaves this planet, I will not be sad. |

Before he got into hot water involving his girlfriend in Los Angeles, I remember a column ex-Sun-Times columnist Jay Mariotti wrote about the local media, and mentioned the name Bob Costas in the same breath as Dan Bernstein. I kid you not... He can be a first class jerk at times to callers that are simply out there, but Bernsy has come a long way as both a host & an online columnist for 670thescore.com. If Terry Boers left that show tomorrow, I really believe Bernsy can handle a solo show full time, just like his New York counterpart, WFAN's Mike Francesa. Bernsy was really good when he subbed for Dan Patrick a couple years ago when The SCORE aired Patrick's show, albeit on tape delay. |

I think he's pretty replaceable. I think Mac is much better. It seems like the Score isn't interested in bringing in real on-air talent. Bernstein is talented, but he just looks more indispensenable because nobody in their right minds wants to see a guy like Leery get a full time daytime gig. |

At least in terms of getting a reaction. But like I said, they are different shows. Mac is The Man Show. Bernstein is Law and Order. |

Excellent. This guys has no connection with the audience. He simply tells you how to think. Any disagreement is summarily dismissed as the thoughts of an idiot. Examples: Don't get excited about regular season wins or anything less than a championship Discard traditions, bye bye Go Cubs Go (my God people are having fun) Only statistics matter when evaluating ballplayers If you like College Basketball (I do not), then you must be a dipchit Youth football should be banned Well w/e. |

That's the point though Denis. You claim never to listen, but you follow and post in this section nearly everyday. RPB's point is he creates discussion/angry/praise every single day. It's not an easy thing to do. |

Generally agree, but he is at risk of becoming a caricature of himself. He kind of jumped the shark with this Penn State thing. He's too comfortable. |

Its just part of your "why do you guys care so much about what Bernstein thinks" stance But if you are honest with yourself, they do cross your mind, dont they? So when Tebow beat the Bears, B and B never entered your mind? During Hansbrough games? During the Natl Championship Shit fest with Butler Uconn? |

The HFC crew is still on the air, just different shows and the Monsters were already fading. Were talking a guy leaving in his prime. |

I honestly never think "What would Bernstein think about this?" when watching a game or hearing a sports topic. That shouldnt be that hard to believe. |

rogers park bryan wrote: I find that hard to believe. Its just part of your "why do you guys care so much about what Bernstein thinks" stance That's fine. You can think what you want, but I'm telling you the truth. I don't, and have never, thought about B&B while watching a sporting event. And I really haven't done the "why do you guys care so much" thing in a long time. There are many things that have gotten old to me, and that's one of them. |

So you listen to a show enough to dedicate a YouTube channel to it. Said show goes ALL TEBOW ALL THE TIME for like 2 years and when you watch Tebow play they dont cross your mind? Surely you can see why I would think otherwise. |

I like Bernstein for the most part but every couple weeks I have to tune the show out for a week or two because his unchangeable opinions annoy me. I suppose there would be an adjustment period but his show has never been something I was a loyal follower of. He is clearly the top dog at the station. Mac is his only rival but at this point in his life I don't think Mac cares about getting in to a dick-measuring contest with Bernsie. Mackeyfish has been successful for 20+ years in this city, made a sweeping comeback, and dominated the airwaves at two different stations. Mac has (perhaps had) drive. Bernstein strikes me as a guy with very little ambition. I guess that's a testament to his talent that he can have a popular radio show and not really give a fuck. He could go national if he wanted but maybe the guy likes his insulated city life and wants to raise his kids without busting his ass every day. I think many of us would like to able to do that. Boers is the guy I would miss the most if he left. He is a shell of his former self but he's kind of like a cult movie: comforting (hey buddy), always there to amuse you and basically honest. He can't hide his contempt for everything in life and tells you what he thinks, whereas I'm not sure Dan B. believes half of the arguments he puts forth. That's fine because I get that you want reactions so people keep listening to the station but it puts people off sometimes. |
