Nike was pushing the Dan's as a kind of second generation to their Bo Knows campaign for cross training shoes. Unfortunately, one Dan didn't make the olympic team and the other crapped the bed..

Apparently, the SCORE is all ready to make a Dan and Dan show (McNeil and Berns) but it's being held up arguing who is the first Dan.
