Between ND bashing, Lance Armstrong and a Bears press conference, today has all the makings to be an absolutely glorious show.

Don't forget that Laurence is in for Terry today! It's gonna be an echo chamber at the hall of justice!

If Trestman "loses" the presser, this could be a must listen.

So wasn't it Part Of The Plan that Emery wouldn't "throw the baby out with the bathwater," as Dan put it, and keep Rod Marinelli's defense installed without Lovie Smith there? Except, of course, that Rod Marinelli is fiercely loyal to Lovie Smith and probably wouldn't be keen on hanging around where his best friend was fired despite a winning season, and now, surprise of surprises, it just came out that no, Marinelli will not stick around under Trestman for one last year. If Emery's idea was to fire the guy at the top and somehow keep his loyal subordinate, which you have to think it was if he didn't think to jettison Lovie's lackeys with him, then that was a really bad idea. Anyone could have seen this. What a fuckin' rube.

Uh, he had to think there was a pretty good chance Marinelli would not be back, especially if Lovie got a head coaching job. Maybe the Bears weren't willing to give Marinelli a big fat contract extension.

Actually I think this is a good thing to essentially clean house and remove the Lovie taint completely.

Maranelli staying would have been a value added part of the Emery regime. An integrated solution, if you will. He now must think outside the box to come up with a solution that keeps the all important synergy going at Halas Hall.

But wait. It was a great move--to hear it from the Score--for Emery not to have gotten rid of Marinelli when he didn't have to. Ain't broke, don't fix it. Why get rid of Marinelli when the offense is the problem? This is about fixing the offense, right? Except there wasn't a snowball's chance in hell that he stayed, so now Emery looks a little pathetic for even entertaining the idea. "I know your sister and I broke up and it was really ugly, but we can still be friends, right? :("

Overreaction here Curious. As Hatchetman stated, I'm pretty sure Emery envisioned a scenario where Marinelli would not stick around. I doubt that this came as a shock and I'm pretty sure Emery had a guy in mind in case this happened.

If by "scenario" you mean "complete metaphysical certitude," maybe. He should have fired him. Now he's been walked out on and looks like a schmuck.

Don't think this won't be brought up: "We've got to put together a staff of high character," he said. "Men who are experts in the science of football."

Speeps revolution made me come back to the board. The benevolent dictators need loyal soldiers to quell the rebellion who will be handsomely rewarded when it's over.

The CJH threads are decidedly more fun than the B&B threads now. It's a shame that show sucks so much though.

Because there's way too much over-analysis of every single word that Dan Bernstein says. That takes the fun out of things a bit. But this has been coming down the pike since 2010 when I first noted that the B&B section was becoming no longer fun.

Spiegel is already gushing over it. "He's going to bring a cerebral approach to football!"

What happened to "football is just blocking and tackling. If you block and tackle, you win. If you don't, you lose." That was Dan's go-to line for years when football talk got stupidly wonky.

Well, they won't get the chance to talk to new Bears' HC Marc Trestman, but chances are better than even money Bernstein & Holmes will replay Mac & Spiegs' interview at some point before Connor "Double Duty" McKnight & Joe Ostrowski guest host the nighttime SCORE come 6P.

Maybe b/c B&B are no longer fun themselves?

We are close to transition so it counts, here goes:

This caller on Mac and Meat has just provided more inside info on the Bears than any Chicago "beat" writer has in the last several years combined.

That's true too, and I've said that plenty of times myself. But it doesn't negate my previous point either.

I was a listener but not a poster when they were great. I don't doubt it was fun to post during those shows.

Let the speculation begin again regarding Holmes as Boers' heir apparent. Holmes sits in for the next 2 days.
