I recall him as being one of the best of a bad series of QB. Kind of weak armed. A good scrambler. Tough as hell. That guy took a beating. Not terrible.

One dropped endzone pass (last play of the game) from going to the SuperBowl

I was thinking about this and I can't remember anything other than Ditka yelling at him and pulling his face mask. I remember more of T-czak when he threw those 3 TD's against Tampa Bay to Wendell Davis I believe, than I do of Harbaugh.

As a Bear, the infamous audible fiasco in Minnesota that had Mike Ditka stomping mad. Harbaugh threw a pick 6 in a 1992 game in which the Vikings beat the Bears, I believe by a final of 21-20. He was also booed leaving the field when the Bears signed him to a $5 million deal in HC Dave Wannstedt's first season in 1993.

He also was one play away from getting the Indianapolis Colts, before Peyton Manning, to the Super Bowl at Pittsburgh in the 1996 AFC Championship game at old Three Rivers Stadium, but the Steelers ended up winning at the end. For then Colts' HC Ted Marchibroda, it wasn't good enough for him to keep his job that offseason if memory serves, too.

Yeah,Shark,I just mentioned that play before you did. I remember some Monday night game where he led a stunning comeback over the Jets. That was the game where Matt Suhey had a face full of grass,if anyone remembers that.

Recall he was a special teams guy as a rookie.

I recall him leading quite a few last second drives to win games for the Bears. The game against N.O. in 1991 when he was putrid for 57 minutes, but then hit 3 passes in a row to win the game.

I liked him as a Bear QB for the most part.

I actually met him at an old VOLVO dealership in my old neighborhood. He signed an autographed photo & a football with his old #4. I still have that football to this day, but the VOLVO dealer on Fullerton Ave. near Cicero is now a laundromat.

This is a good topic. Where does Harbaugh rate between McMahon & Cutler among Bear QB's in that time period? I'll give you my top 9:
9. Steve Walsh
8. Kyle Orton
7. Mike Tomzak
6. Brian Griese
5. Shane Matthews
4. Jim Miller
3. Rex Grossman
2. Jim Harbaugh
1. Erik Kramer

What if you throw Cutler and McMahon in? Where do they rank?

Hmmm....

I recall liking Harbaugh, but only because I had hoped he would become Steve Young.
I think Orton is ranked way too low on that list. Griese is 8. Orton and Miller are about even in my book. Rex might be better than Harbaugh.

He'd put them at 1 and 2...

Based on talent: Cutler 1 & McMahon 2,everybody else drops down.
Based on brains: switch 'em

Tomczak was horrific, and was made to look WAY better by still very solid team around him.

Well,I just went by memory. When Miller was on the field,I felt pretty confident he was going to make something happen. He had some really good games. Orton was more of a dink & dunk guy, game manager type though I thought he was supposed to have a strong arm coming out of college.

I saw him in his first game at Anaheim stadium on a Monday night, he looked lost. I remember him as a Bear QB who threw a lot of short curls and was tough when forced to scramble. My last memory of him as a QB was when he was with Indy in a win over the Chiefs, in the on-field interview after the game he first thanked his "Lord and Savior, JC" for helping him win.

Based on accomplishment,Steve Fuller rates hire than Cutler. That 1984 Redskin game still ranks as one of my all-time Bear wins.

Suhey? He retired in 1989, and the game was played in 1991.
You're thinking of Cap Boso.

I was going to put Cap Boso. Hard to forget that name, but I thought it was Suhey. Too lazy too google, just going by memory. That was a great comeback though on national tv.
