I mean its completely obvious that he is done with the whole "discussing sports" thing.

He wants to do bigger things and general talk. That's why he goes crazy for every social type issue that even bumps up against a sports story.

He's good enough, smart enough, and doggoneit people will listen

This would be like attempting to put out a fire by pouring lighter fluid on it.

Dan is the problem. Therefore, getting rid of any resistance to his programming isn't going to help.

I agree with Bryan. Bernstein is still the best sports talker in the city but it's clear he is bored by sports talk. He loves the NBA, and talks about how awesome it is, and yet this whole week it's been a fight against people who think homosexuality is wrong because the "bible says so". He's actively ignoring the NBA playoffs.

Speaking of Coppock

Dan's Tweet on Christians was more bigoted than anything Chet ever reportedly said

I remember another big time sports talk host who transitioned to general topics.

I wonder what song the producers for next generation's B and B will use to mock Dan...maybe the "french mistake" song from the end of blazing saddles.

I heard most of that part. I thought it was a pretty good monologue. Much better than Danny's contrived rantings.

I agree. I heard it too. It surprised me that Terry was shaken up by that but he's right. You never know if a guy has a gun or something.

Terry also cracked me up when they interviewed that GreenBay writer when he threw in a "Favre pee-pee pic" joke. I still consider Dan & Terry the two funniest guys I ever listened to.

I'm not sure if your comments are serious or not, but I often wonder why people associate greater intelligence with "general" talk radio. The hosts of those shows don't seem to be particularly bright to me. In most cases, they're just reciting talking points circulated by one of the two major parties.

Don't worry, Dan will start working on that issue soon enough.... if he hasn't already.

dan: WHY WOULD ANYONE NEED A GUN TO DEFEND THEMSELVES?

caller: "well what if you wake up in the middle of the night and somebody's robbing your house..."

dan: CALL THE POLICE. THAT'S WHAT THEY'RE THERE FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

caller: "but even if i called them and they came as soon as possible that doesn't mean my family couldn't......"

dan: THEN YOU GET A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM OR YOU FACE THE RISK OF DEALING WITH IT. GROW UP. NOBODY NEEDS A GUN IN THIS DAY AND AGE AND IF YOU DO, WELL, YOU MIGHT AS WELL GO OUT TO THE MIDDLE EAST AND JOIN AL QAEDA BECAUSE IF YOU WANT TO THINK "THEY'RE NOT SPEAKING FOR ME" YES THEY ARE, ON THIS ISSUE THEY ARE BECAUSE THEY WANT TO HARM AS MANY AMERICANS AS POSSIBLE, AND HAVING AN ARMED POPULACE WILL HARM AS MANY AMERICANS AS POSSIBLE!!!!!

caller: "but dan, you know in the 1200s the peasants weren't allowed to have any weapons and that would mean we're going back..."

dan: IT'S THE 2010S. GROW UP.... NOBODY NEEDS A GUN EXCEPT FOR THE POLICE AND THE MILITARY. WELCOME TO SOCIETY YOU HAVE TO LIVE BY THE RULES, THIS AIN'T SOME 1950S WESTERN FANTASY...

Dan suffers from the same inferiority complex that ESPN does. They know sports is a joke. It's not really "news." Both try to bring a sense of gravitas to stories that allegedly transcend the sports world. Jackoffs like Rick Reilly are always thinking they aren't covering sports but telling stories about people. They can say it all they want but deep down these sports people are very aware their trade's journalistic integrity is about a notch above those of gossip rags.

Bernie Lincicome blows farts that are more intelligent than anything Boers or bernstein have ever said.

I am not saying that B or B is demonstrably bright; my point is that most general talkers are rather doltish themselves. Bernie Lincicome is/was a gifted stylist, but never had much of substance to say. I wonder why neither the Trib nor the Sun-Times hired him when he moved back to the area a few years ago.

And the history of general talk radio shows is that people like Dan don't last long on general talk stations.

I remember many years ago Bernie was intereviewed in Denver about the emerging trend of "newspaper writers" crossing over to radio and TV. He questioned both their integrity (who do you serve, readers or audience?) and motivations (a direct slap at Mariotti), and stated he didn't believe in doing it.

In his later years I thought he had lost his fastball.

He really does need to pick a lane. The cognitive dissonance is amazing.

Dan goes from crying about gay rights and molested children right into a phone call from Roy Oswalt's Bulldozer, sports picks from an alcoholic in Milwaukee, and cheering when an old, diabetic Cubs broadcaster with no feet died.

As JORR said earlier, the two approaches are so incongruent, that it turns into 5 hours of total hypocrisy every day. There is no way around it.

Going from Very Important Radio to a call from Roy Oswalt's Bulldozer reminds me of this:

Where does the fault lie with the callers?
Are those who "choose" to talk about other topics get sent to the back of the line, making room for Dan's "selected" callers.

Although I listened to 90% of the show, I missed that. What's the story?

He was describing his experience with a "crazy fan" walking up to him as he was leaving a remote who told him that he was abandoning his generation with his liberal views.

I believe the Boston shit was getting him choked-up, too.

Shit, he left and went home on 9 / 1 1.

What time in the show did he talk about this?
