I'm just going to pop in a comment from this Deadspin article about Bill Simmons (http://deadspin.com/bill-simmons-thinks ... -510443204) and let you all think if it reminds you of anyone:

"I'm very happy when Simmons does things like this, because it shows beyond a shadow of a doubt how small-minded he really is.

People tend to get fooled because he does have a certain ability to put together highly-structured, voluminous, and sometimes entertaining arguments about sort of inconsequential topics, like finding parallels between movie quotes and an upcoming sports season. This can sometimes make for a decent read, and there is a market for a decent read out there.

But Simmons isn't content with that. He wants to be important. He is DYING to be seen as someone who gives unique, searing insight, whose theories shed new light on things that just wasn't there before.

But he's fucking lazy in that regard, and he ain't that bright (to wit: connecting the MLK assassination with the collective psyche of Memphis Grizzlies fans). And like RBP says I think he knows his role and doesn't take himself too seriously. He sometimes contradicts himself multiple times within 5 minutes on his podcasts for goodness sakes.

I think when he was just the sports guy breaking down Karate Kid and how it relates to the Celtics was pretty entertaining.

I think that's the problem. Back when he was on Page 2 he was able to pick and choose his spots a lot more effectively. Sometimes not write an article for 2 weeks, take 2 months to do a mailbag etc. With the podcast and NBA basketball coverage etc, he's being forced to come up with new stuff daily and that would expose anyone who made a living doing what he did.

I have never heard Bernsie say that -- doesn't mean it wasn't uttered.
Bernsie uses hyperbole to spark discussions, but I don't believe he frames conversations to please others. I don't think Dan takes himself that seriously. He's said that several times. Maybe he's lying.

He said the VIR crap constantly when people would ask him why they continued to discuss Penn State. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT STORY THAT NEEDS TO BE TOLD. While I agree with that in theory, the lengths to which they dragged out the story certainly can be debated.
