Love Bernstein's title of his column: Good riddance to an ugly racist. My title: Don't be fooled by an ugly racist. Bernstein loves when racists gets caught. Enjoys it a little bit more than anybody should. Why? Because he's celebrating the fact that nobody knows he's a racist. That he's been able to hide it. He's really saying "Paula, you got to be able to keep this on the down low. You're just too stupid to do so." It's columns like this that keep him safe and keep everybody fooled. Look at this Bernstein, the naive say to themselves, he hates racist. He must. No racist would write this column, right? How can he be racist if he celebrates the exposures and the career deaths of racist celebrities? He just can't be, right? Christ, he's even convinced Goff and Larry. Both believe he is is their friend. Both emulate him. One parrots, praises and worships him every weekday at about 5:50pm. If these two love him, how can he be a racist? Can't be. Right? Wrong. Though he doesn't do it as much as he once did, him talking in Ebonics to impersonate a black person is the equivalent of Paula Dean wanting black waiters to dress up in slave clothing at a wedding. Bernstein's "Wang Whipper" term to describe large, athletic African-american basketball players is code for the N-word. Him putting down the white athlete and saying he wouldn't draft a big white center or RB is him saying, "If I'm gonna error, I'm gonna error with a wang whipper. Also, him putting down Dean for not associating with black people is laughable. Bernstein doesn't have any black friends either. Doesn't even see many in his life. You gotta believe this to be true. Deerfield to Duke to an all white upper class Chicago neighborhood. Now that Goff is gone, it's only at 5:50. But it's only cuz it's work related. Not by choice. This would be fine, not racist in it of itself - the lack of association - but don't throw stones at Paula Dean if you're one in the same. Paula would have been fine, in Bernstein's eyes, if she had only called them "Wang Whippers". |

OK, I've read enough. This is, and always will be, the problem with Bernstein. I 100%, absolutely agree with his perceptions of Paula Deen. She is a piece of garbage... trash at its highest honor... and yet, if I didn't know Bernstein, the fervor in which he admonishes her is characteristic of someone who is marching the streets and protesting the downplay of the minority's plight. But what is he actually doing? He is trolling meatballs and laughing about references to female genitalia by his partner. And yet... even with the bullshit he talks about and the feigned outrage he so easily displays, I could still relate to his cause if only there were a rhyme or reason to what he bitched about. He hates Paula Deen, Jerry Sandusky, Tim Tebow, and Lance Armstrong. There is nothing common about these caricatures. This is due to Bernstein's way of thinking. He reads a newspaper or blog or website, and he sees something that he disagrees with philosophically, and he goes into overdrive condemning the person on public air waves. But he does not research the topic further or realize that his accusations are like searching for a needle in a hay stack. There are literally hundreds of thousands of individuals just as sickening as Paula Deen. There are also hundreds of thousands of individuals actually fighting the good fight. They are the ones going door to door and garnering votes for political figures who will fight for just causes. They are the ones heading up NPO's who fight for the disenfranchised and genuinely caring for people at an individual level. They are the journalists who do actual, honest to god reporting of unjust and archaic causes. Bernstein is a mouthpiece. He is an immature child who sees something which he disagrees with philosophically, latches on, and then makes a federal cause out of it, without ever actually doing anything to enact change or to persuade public consciousness for the better. To summarize, Paula Dean is a piece of shit, and Dan Bernstein is one step above that. |

I have no idea about Dan and his mock crusades but I still just don't get why on a sports page? Why not in a trib editorial page or something? I suppose there are people that must feel they are doing/fighting something to feel ok about their own life. I laughed the other day when he said his family watched roots and talked about it. Dud he was like 7 and it was a long mini series I think? My parents said get your ass to bed at 8. |
