Post subject:  Urlacher back to the Bears/ Bernstein's culture case study

So I've read here that Bernstein is against it. Of course. He has to take that stance. It's natural and predictable. But it's actually the only logical thing to do. If Urlacher want to come back. He might not.

Anyway, we're gonna have a little case study here. I predict that Bernstein's soldiers and some of the other backups at the Score will be against Urlacher coming back cuz they don't want to be called a meatball by Bernstein.

This means all of Bernstein's soldiers: Terry, Hog, Larry, Connor and drinky. Even Mac's kids, Shep and Fifer, if they get shows over the weekend, will be against it out of fear of Bernstein's wrath.

Mully, Hanley, Mac and Spiegs will be the only guys who might be in favor of it since they're not a part of Bernstein's Score culture. Nor do they fear him.

Just saying. It's the only logical thing to do. Keep your ears open. I'll be right.

I agree. If he's not in shape and/or doesn't want to do it, fine. But the Bears should make the call.

He could have 3 weeks to get into football shape for the Packers game. We have a bye. He'd only miss the Redskins game.

Not even saying he should start if Bostic can figure shit out. But Bostic was awful yesterday. You need a body. He knows the system. He wouldn't play on 3rd down passing situations, ever.

Put it this way: If Urlacher can be exactly what he was last year, which wasn't very good, it's still better than any other option.

And I'm not saying this from an "I love 54" meatball attitude. I actually don't like Urlacher. I was happy the Bears didn't bring him back. But the Bears are in dire straits right now. Gotta give him a call.

I bet they could pick this guy up:

55
Nick Barnett

Currently with Washington. Trade a low draft pick for him.

This is Brian Urlacher,on name alone should get him a "looksee" but nobody bit or he had enough.

Just to give you an indication of how they fear Bernstein. Some of you guys might remember this transition.

Larry was talking about cities he hates. Then he said something like "and don't get me started on Pittsburgh." He was about to rip the city. Then Bernstein said "I love Pittsburgh". At which Larry said "Me too."

I'm not surprised at all to read bad sports thoughts from Herb. Moving Shea Mac to LB is exactly what the Bears should, & will do at some point. It is painfully obvious that Shea should not a DE in a 4-3 defense.

With regards to Urlacher, the Bears miss his defensive play calling badly. Briggs certainly hasn't mastered calling a defense yet.

I dont blame Briggs for calling the defense. The whole middle of their defense is either injured or atrocious and they have no pass rush. He could make the exact right call every play and they would still fuck it up.

Good thing they let Israel Idonije walk. He wasn't great but steady.

I get that move though. You cant predict that you would lose 2 DTs and your Pro Bowl DE would decide he was retired but still suiting up for games. Having depth is nice but you cant have depth at every single position. DE and DT looked OK heading into the season.

just let bostic play, let him learn on the job... it wont matter who plays MLB if the pash rush continues to look like it did last night... with that kind of pass rush you will not be able to beat good teams... and its not like you can find a quality DT on the street

That's fine. Bostic plays. I agree. Still need to sign a backup MLB. Get Urlacher in so he can get in football shape if Bostic goes down. Or get him in shape if Bostic is shit for 2 or 3 straight games. Then Urlacher takes over. Like I said, it's good timing since the Bears have one game in the next 23 days.

That's classic.

I was in Pittsburgh this summer and enjoyed it very much. I highly recommend doing the riverboat cruise. It's a very interesting little pocket of America over there: not quite Midwest, not quite East. Tons of interesting architecture. Driving through Mount Washington is really neat.

Whoever the replacement is, the D is done. The best they can do is perfect pass coverage by limiting the damage done in the air due to a nonexistent pass rush. Draft D in the first two rounds and optimize the skills/talents of Bostic and McClellin over the season. That's one thing Trestman promised to do: place players in positions that maximize their abilities. I trust he just wasn't referring to offense.
