Matt Abbatacola had a somewhat stupid idea to have us listeners vote on the Boers & Bernstein Person of the Year. The winner goes to the person who has impacted the show in this last year - it could be good or bad. I think it's a safe bet that Bob from Niles is going to get this award.

Dan Bernstein said the idea had been "rattling around" M. Abbatacola's noggin for sometime. If this is the case, then shame on them for not having the page / poll set-up on boersandbernstein.com or a post on their Facebook page.

Here are some other options that I came up with:

* Mike from Milwaukee / Gary from Evanston: they will both get a honorable mention because Bob from Niles was also named.

* Joel Quinnville - coach of the Blackhawks. Without the Blackhawks, Chicago sports have had a really down year. This has a direct effect on caller attitudes. My friends and I went to a bunch of remotes when the Hawks were making their playoff run and had a really nice time.

* Derek Rose - A lot of discussion was generated because of his knee injury.

* Dan McNeil - LOL!

BigFan, could you please create a poll so that we can have our own CSFMB poll?

I think I should be one of the 16 if this is truly about impact on the B&B show.

Its really just another version of year end awards, NCAA Tourney, etc.

Too awardy on that show.

Have a LIVE year end show

B&B sure do gush over drinky for these simple ideas that really take no effort to pull off. Especially Boers. He always tries to make drinky feel like he's important to the show even though Boers doesn't believe it.

It's not even his idea, it's TIME Magazine's.

They'll give it to Gary from Evanston for sentimental reasons

People who think this is a good idea and will think it's funny:

Danny
Drinky
Terry (just to play along)
Quad City Pat
Maddox Boy
10' Assbag
Smutzie
Larry

People who will think it's lame as hell:

Everyone else

Agreed -- and they end up running it really poorly. Stick with your silly Tournament Of Bad and Quote of The Year, and all others should be banned. The air conditioning thing proves that Abbatacola does not know how to run a contest.

They make fun of the Mac show for doing the silly drafts, but then you get

Dan.

Dan.

Hey Dan.

Dan.

I have an idea, Dan.

Dan.

Okay.

Here's my idea, Dan.

You pick something you like.

That's a good idea, Dan.

Not like those drafts.

Dan.

No doubt Bob from Niles will win this award. His role on the show has increased substantially, now surpassing Mike from Milwaukee.

PERSON of the Year show in October?

For a bunch of guys that ridicule everyone for everything else, this is pretty stupid!

Every now and then drinky feels he has to do something.

So he does something simple like slapping a bunch of B&B people on the web site and telling people to vote. Then he waits for Terry to praise him for such a great idea. He's basically like a dog begging to be petted.

The last time drinky thought of something to do was his CBS minutes. :puker: He swung and missed badly on those but because Terry pretended to love them that lasted a few months.

Drinky should just stick to answering the phones and putting up the idiots on a tee for Bernstein. Bernstein can do the show content without any help. He's been doing it since he started. Terry is there to go along with whatever direction Bernstein wants to go.

This is why it isn't good....

Just as Descartes led 17th century rationalists, Lao Tzu founded Taoism and Epictetus codified the ideas of ancient Greek stoics, these two coaches have apparently pioneered a radical, new concept — replacing an injured player with another player.

I mean, I get "next man up" as a rallying cry for teams to not let themselves shut down because a player got injured, but headlines like "Thibs Employing 'Next Man Up' Strategy" are positively asinine. Go figure he cited WSCR on that one.

No. That's a manufactured "I'm smart because I can say things other people can't" article. "Next Man Up" basically means that the fill in is expected to provide the same production as the person they are replacing. Dan Bernstein can say "Next Man Provide 50% Of The Production As The First Person Did" but coaches can't. They have to attempt to minimize the damage done by losing a player. It is a coaches job to set high standards. Secretly, they know that the replacement won't provide the same level of production. They just can't say it.

Unless of course his point is that what coaches say don't really matter. If that is the case, well, POPOVICH!

I get all that, and I'm sure Dan does as well, but it seems like more of the ire is directed at the media for referring to it as a "strategy" or "philosophy" that's being employed when you'd be hard pressed to find a team that doesn't preach continuing to play games without an injured player.

Maybe they should write a glowing article about Thibs running plays.
