both were the first choices all along. Swerve! Betcha you thought the Cubs wanted Joltin' Joe. But you'd be wrong. Smart People KNEW that Joe would never leave. Silly you!

Courtesy Matty Abbatycola. Matt, I now have a problem with you for the first time in my listening to you.

as Beardown points out, Matty is directly countermanning Dan Bernstein, who stated that the Cubs "had no plan B".

1st 60 seconds and the sanctimonious chest thumping douchebagery is already at an 11.

Everything is bad because BernSTINE says so and is the arbiter of such things.

I'm hoping someone calls in and does my job for me. This Matty/Dan managerial hire thing should be addressed.

So if he was the first candidate and it was guaranteed that he would take the job, why did they continue to interview candidates?

Did Torey Lovollo have information about Ellsbury's character that Theo wouldn't have gained through drafting and developing him for a decade?

Is there some cutting edge variation of the wheel play being developed by Dave Martinez and the interview allowed them to pick his brain?

I'd say Matty pretty much lifted his material from Gordon Wittenmire. That makes me now thing Dan's more in the wrong.

so, Theo wanted to talk to Lovello.

Hoyer et al wanted Renteria

Ownership wanted Girardi.

Huh?

Why won't Dan just say little Tommy Ricketts wanted Girardi? Who else could "people above Theo" be?

very highly placed people thought they could get Joe.

Were these the same people that were talking to you, Dan?

It's not like it is a stretch for the Owner of a team that is struggling to fill the seats to want to bring in a former player who is pretty well respected in the area and has a World Series ring over some dude nobody heard of before this search began

Post subject:  Re: 11/7: Trestman and Renteria-What Do They Have In Common

So this boils down to:

Padres guys wanted Padres guy
Red Sox guy wanted Red Sox guy
Dude who watched Cubs games in the '90s wants Cub from the '90s

I'm glad Dan broke it down for me! I wouldn't have been able to put it together otherwise!

Post subject:  Re: 11/7: Trestman and Renteria-What Do They Have In Common

I tried calling in. I just want Dan to answer to the fact that apparently his "Plan B" news was only from the desk of the owner and not the three major decision makers. Answer to that. I can't take his Cubs source seriously if he/she is reporting on what the owner says.

SOMEBODY PLEASE CALL IN AND, WHEN PUT ON THE AIR, PLAY THE PODCAST WHERE DAN IS SCREAMING ABOUT HOW. BIG. OF. A. DEAL. GIRARDI. IS. HOW THERE IS NO PLAN B, IT'S GIRARDI OR NOTHING.

How can he sit there and snicker and say "clearly two guys wanted Renteria, from the beginning, that is a fact ..... AND NOT ADDRESS the above screaming?

Dan likes to position himself as some sort of intellectual, but how does him screaming about the Cubs being 'all in' on Girardi or how he slammed the brakes on the show to talk about how some meaningless story about Kevin Love = him coming to Bulls = ANY DIFFERENT than the screaming meatballs he likes to mock daily?

What a complete asshat. Maybe I missed the "I was wrong, my sources were wrong" - if so, my apologies, Dan. If not, go screw you blowhard know-nothing!

Even Curtis Granderson gets a production montage that consists of hearing the name "Curtis Granderson" over and over. No Big Voice Guy, though!

CH, I never thought of it in those simple terms. You seem to be quite right!

From worldseriesdreaming.com in 2012:

If you remember back to the offseason when Wood was brought back, there were rumors of an extra clause in his contract that would make him a Cub for life. The love Tom Ricketts has for him is no surprise, and neither should the rumor of that clause. According to Dan Bernstein of WSCR, the rumor was that he would take Santo’s place in the radio booth, a position currently held by Keith Moreland. Whether or not that rumor turns out to be true, or how soon things will be put into place if they are, is anyone’s guess.

Bernsy now:

@dan_bernstein: KW's no guarantee to replace Moreland. Possibility of broadcast role came up when he signed deal w/Ricketts, but he may not want to travel.

This week made it clear they have no idea what they are talking about in terms of the Cubs. Just throw out guesses and see what sticks!
