Who can argue with that?

Also, here's an article in which Dan's "sources" (including "legal experts consulted by WSCR"--be still, my heart!) tell him that the Cubs are discussing moving, which they should have done a long time ago, but they probably won't, but they should, and oh man can you imagine if they did, tee hee: http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/02/07/ ... ar-option/

Yes, the business is getting smarter. Just like the Sports radio ratings going up, it wasn't because the old measuring system was awful, it was because people wanted intelligent sports radio and The Score delivered!

Chickenshit but not surprising in the least. Bernstein is basically Bill Simmons with a thesaurus.

It's chickenshit because first and foremost he's a hack writer, a shill, and conveniently obtuse. His "sources" are completely nebulous (sorry to disagree Bigfan) and can't offcially go on record for the organization. He gets to further a shadow agenda while at the same time giving the organization the leeway to deny or denounce the position(s) he takes.

Smarter (and richer) people than he have looked at the options available and realized that the options stated have either significant drawbacks or costs that have to be considered. If it were as simple as writing a check to end the agreement with the rooftop owners then what's the obstacle? Buying the land would mean it would eventually depreciate unless they could convince the city to let them buy Waveland and/or Sheffield Avenues. A proposition that has already been asked and answered (the city said no to buying streets). Court fight? Why don't the Cubs hire WSCR's legal experts to win the slam dunk? One answer is that the rooftops could go to court and get an injunction that so long as the Cubs want to break the contract the length of the contract will be extended, meaning a Cubs legal loss keeps the rooftops around that much longer.

Tom Ricketts is not the savvy business baron because he's playing with his daddy's money (the true baron) and he knows that he's to make the return on the investment of that money before he can start talking/thinking about building a winner on the field. As has been asked by many in the corridors of 121 N. LaSalle St., why haven't the Cubs started building what they can now that would give them the immediate results? The ad dollars from the new signage doesn't necessarily all come up front so if they were truly earnest they would put their money (which they have) where their mouths are and do what they can now. That action would show the rooftops just how serious they are.

As for moving, it sounds good on paper and coming from the mouths of radio hosts not affliated with the team, but the economic reality is that the organization would take on not just the debt of new construction elsewhere but be stuck with the property in Chicago with a city that would no longer look favorably on extending considerations for waving or postponing taxes due from the sale of the team. Rosemont (or whomever) would not be letting the Cubs develop the surrounding land, at least not without considerable compensation for the infrastructure improvements they may have pay. Also, aside from the 81 games a year and the couple dozen concerts the new entertainment venues would have relatively dormant foot traffic. So unless there's a winner on the field the risks for loss become very significant.

As for more lawyers in sports, Howard Cosell is the first one I remember and that was over 40 years ago. It isn't just dumb luck or abject belligerence that gives the rooftop owners the footing of their position, really smart people are available for hire all the time and evidently the rooftop owners have chosen wisely.

That line BF is really odd. I can see when he says shaded things. But he wrote that WSCR actually contacted people? Is he officially the voice of WSCR after all? If it was a more controversial column this could have caused him trouble.

Today's show has the potential to be an all time awful show. Nothing urgent happening with any of the local teams, Bernstein's liberal agenda should be on a full display today when he is in shock of the twitter reaction to the Smart incident as he calls anyone who disagree's with his position racist, and anyone who doesn't think Sam is the story of the year is a bigot. Expect a lot of name calling today from Mr.Tolerance.

How smart can someone be if they become a lawyer and then have to become a sportscaster?

I mean, it's not like my doctor worked his way through medical school with the goal of covering the NBA Eastern Conference Finals.

Dan Bernstein ‏@dan_bernstein 12m
So Michael Sam is a versatile, smart, aggressive hybrid DE, and Marc Trestman's #Bears prioritize a close, welcoming locker-room culture.

That's because Munson is an ESPN guy, the Score's guy is Darvin Ham.

Dan needs to be called out...actually both he and Terry do! As weird as the Manti Teo story was Dan DID NOT HESITATE with saying he was "probably gay" and then giggle like a little school girl!! Were they not also using the HOMER "GAY" drop often..which has AMAZINGLY fallen off...Jason Collins and now Sam allow for hypocritical pontification from the little one...

usually no local sports news means a good goofy show is on tap... but i think you are definitely going to be correct. They'll just state the majority of texters dont like the gay missouri linebacker just so Dan can be outraged about it.

even still transition should be a safe bet for a decent listen like it usually is.
