The best part of this is that he's talking about a 4-3 defense. A 4-3 defense. A 4-3 defense is as exotic as skim fucking milk.

Why call it a 40-front in the first place? Saying "four-three" saves an entire syllable!

I just want to molotov cocktail my radio when I hear that generic term "stuff." We have this language, with thousands of goddamn words, to describe every object and situation you might encounter in life. Use them, Mr. English major. Stop with the "stuff" and describing a performance or trend as a "thing."

That stuff Lebron was doing last night...that was a thing.

could be better said as

When Lebron took his wang out and smeared it all over Hinrich's face, I decided that in the future I would pay his stud fee and breed him with an exceptionally athletic black female to create progeny for my amusement later in life.

I have a bigger problem with "that was a thing".

Use your words.

Ha. I like that phase juxtaposed against the countless times Dan has asked a caller: "Where did you hear that, who said it, and what did they say specifically.

Without fail, the answer is always "people on Twitter."

It's just so perfectly Bernstein. He loves to present himself as a lover of football minutiae (aka stuff!), but really he's a lover of football jargon. He completely shows his ass anytime he has to do any actual analysis. The only difference between him and Mark Schlereth is that it takes Dan twice as many words to reach the same hackneyed conclusion..

The killer app of Twitter is that people like bernstein no longer have to work up their strawmen.

I still remember the days when people would call in and barf a bunch of nonsense about schemes and Dan would just say "no, you just have to block and tackle! That's all it is!" Then someone whispered in his ear that if you start talking in jargon, it means you can position yourself as knowing more than other people. That was too much to resist.

I like this new WFAN trend of people calling hosts with tape of the hosts. You'd like for someone to do it to Dan with "all that matters is blocking and tackling," or "triple-spread option will never work in the NFL," or even "I want to breed her" just for fun, but Dan is much quicker on the uptake than dunderheads like Mike Zaun and Benigno, and so it'd surely get dumped.

Danny with the great analysis:

@MickerFP # jamming #Bullscutters, and are using superior guard size. They have scouted them. Creating matchups.

Because he probably heard Bowen call it that.

Bowen makes most of his stuff up on the fly.

I can see the Bears running a modified 20-Skip if they have the point safety and Power 9 they'll need to execute it. Of course, that leaves an All Back in the secondary, and those aren't easy to find.

That's something Matt Bowen has probably espoused.

Do you think they'll try using McClellin as a slash-pivot, as more and more teams are doing with players like him at the college level?

I predict...as teams implement more 10 Front and 20 Front defenses, that positions will become meaningless and players will rightfully be categorized as numbers and fruit. Like he's a Kumquat 19 or that guy is a Lime 12.

Apologies if I am repeating myself, but don't you remember last year (or maybe the season before) when he was going on and on about the All 22 and how that would change how people look at football forever (as well as one person from this board who thought it was going to be like lifting Oz's curtain)? Nothing really became of that, and I honestly don't know anybody who spent time watching the All 22... I think he just likes saying All 22.

The "xx" Front thing is out of control. I only heard a couple hours this afternoon but I heard 30, 40, and 50 no less than 20 times.

I honestly had never heard this term ever before a month ago and I've watched football for 37 years.
