The Bernstein shtick will be a big hit with the WGN crowd or WLS crowd when he goes there.

No, it won't.

I don't get it. Bernstein has been doing his thing for years.....very succesfully I might add.

It's not like he's retired and all of his "students" are the only ones that can prove his worth now. He still keeps people very interested. He does his job ver well. It isn't his job to equip anyone for future jobs...

it's because bernstein is very good at radio and guys like amattacola and goffralopithicus aren't. i always used to liken the latter to doing his ironically-vanilla shows straight out of the "sports talk radio show hosting for dummies" book and when he did stuff like trying to force a "THE RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH" meme i felt like neil patrick harris in undercover brother saying "whooo it's getting a little bit racial up in this piece"

but aside from anything that can be said about anyone else, the big difference is that bernstein is very good at radio and the others? not so much. bernstein knows when to rein it in while the others think that "letting it go" will define them as a brand. kind of like the obligatory righteous playing of christmas in hollis as bumper music in december when the treacherous three did a much better christmas song. (sorry i can't find the version i got on vinyl with the good beat on youtube)

Right.....so like I said. It's not a reflection on Bernstein at all.

I just listened to the audio that Goff claims got him fired. He ordered salsa from a mexican restaurant.

If this is indeed what did him in, that is pretty amazing especially considering Goff's Master is allowed to openly call for people to be killed. I'm thinking that after being made aware of his canning, Goff placed a call to Dear Leader to get "reinstated" at the Score.

It's more likely that they fired him because their last ratings book was scary bad.

good dolphin had a good point, though: you can't blame the bad ratings on Goff himself when he's splitting his timeslot with Atlanta Hawks play-by-play. First of all, basketball on the radio is hot buttered death, and it's the Atlanta Hawks, the complete apathy for whom I will never understand in what's supposed to be the black capital of America, but a team no one cares about nonetheless. Unless they're postulating that people were turned off by the Hawks pre/post host, how can they blame Jason?

yeah and i'd guess that his reference to "not compromising his vision" for the show = management gave him some (much needed?) ideas on how to make the more palatable and he opted to double down and keep "the greatest story never told" going on and on.

did he still have that guy (fittingly) named mac on his show? or had he been going solo for awhile? my guess is if the station paired him up with their mac and he eventually got enough juice to get rid of him, the ratings book coming back as a ratings post-it-note prolly vindicated CBS' desire to pair him up with someone "more established in the market" and that coulda been the beginning of the end.

so i figure if they were saying "hey let's pair you up with [white guy X who prolly goes to one of the good temples]" and he said no (and thus not compromising "his vision" of his show) that could be the kind of thing that gets you the quick pink slip.

Maybe the Hawks stadium is in a white / jewish neighborhood and they're afraid to go there?

hey, this is the medium of radio where howard stern invented everything and he's such a big deal that he spent 15+ minutes recently admonishing both jeff van gundy and michael savage for not paying their fealty to the wig. so if howard stern created everything, well then, i suppose it's easy enough to blame everything on one guy. as you no doubt know this wouldn't be the first time in the grand history of radio that failure would be misappropriated and (conveniently) directed at one guy as to not focus on the guys upstairs who made/let it happen.

there's also the suggestion i had in the reply two posts b4 this one, cuz i'd conjecture to guess that goff wanted to go solo to maximize his brand and eventually got his wish.... but then when it's "the me show" it's not like you can blame it on anyone other than "me" i guess.

I'm guessing they didn't like his style. Strategically controversial to be sure, but perhaps a bit too unorthodox for decision makers' tastes.

I think the other Mac guy went away quite a while ago. But dropping down below a 1.0 is going to make any GM panic. That other station with the 0.4 should be thinking about flipping formats if things are gonna be that bad. I never listened to his Atlanta show, but if he really did Bernstein Radio this whole time, well, you can't be surprised if it didn't take Atlanta by storm. It hasn't even taken Chicago by storm.

Haha. Actually, part of what killed the Atlanta Thrashers was that all the fans lived in the north suburbs and didn't like going downtown where all the Scary Blacks were.

I mean, what it really came down to was that ownership ran the numbers and realized that having concerts and trade shows made more money for their arena than a hockey team did, so they just evicted their own team and told the NHL to fuck off, but the fact that everyone in Marietta feared the Scary Blacks certainly helped them reach that conclusion.

Good point. Remember how Bernstein bragged that one of his made it? He basically took credit for Goff getting Atlanta. Well, now he has to take the blame for Goff getting fired.

Bernstein's tree is gonna be like Coach K's tree. Bad and fired.

I've always told Bernstein's boys not to be like Bernstein. They simply can't pull it off like their master. They're not smart enough.

Now we'll see if good old Bernstein is really a friend to Goff.

Goff: Hey man, what's up?

Bernstein: Who is this? You sound black. If you're selling something, I don't want it. If you're not selling anything, I'm calling the cops.

Goff: It's me!!!! Jason Goff!!!!

Bernstein: Oh, hey. How the hell did you get my number?

Goff: I asked Terry for it. By the way, I always found it strange that you would never give it to me. Anyway, I was wondering if you can convince Mitch and Zim into taking me back. Maybe for some weekend gigs to start out and then I'll see if I can work my way into Mac's seat. We've been through a lot together. I'm asking you to help me out.

Bernsetin: No. Don't call again or I will call the cops. (CLICK)

Goff:

Dan wins again: he's never helped anyone get ahead in this business and he never will, thus making his producer look that much better than one of Mac's producers and indirectly making himself look better, which directly makes him look better when one of his own gets shitcanned, because hey, he never stuck his neck out for anyone.

Beardown, if you could be one of the Score personalities, which one would you be? How would said person change once you had taken over his/her body? Provide sample conversations.
