Don Tiny wrote: Wait a minute .... a team of professional atheletes won't get better until its fanbase gets more critical? I don't think that is what he is saying. He is saying for soccer to have really arrived in our country fans would not be happy with the result of going 1-2-1 in a world tournament. If/when it has arrived fans will expect more and be upset by such a performance. I think he is right. Germany or Brazil would not be happy by such a performance. But America is. |

Your post is very sensible and likely correct. I'm not sure what to believe anymore. |

Eh, if Derrick Rose and Calvin Johnson played footy instead of football/hoops, the US would dominate. \ |

Gave it a shot after transition... Right out of the gate with the hardcore soccer trolling, a couple of guys that know nothing about soccer and never watch soccer are now the arbiters of U.S. national soccerdom. Hilarious that Boers was in on this. PTFB. |

I think people simply got a kick out of a team that wasn't expected to do well doing better than expected. It's an excuse for people to hang out, knock a few back, and have a little fun. IT'S. NOT. SUPER. SERIOUS. BUSINESS. to most people. Which is probably how it should it be. |

Is Dan wrong about the soccer thing? I follow every two years, the Euro and World Cup. I'm hardly a die hard fan but I at least have a working knowledge. I was at a restaurant yesterday and people were draped in the flag in the bar area and I heard them talking and they had no clue what was happening. It is just an excuse to hang out and get drunk... This isnt going to make soccer big in the USA. |

Dan is mistaken. He thinks his soccer trolling will get the soccer masses fired up. problem is there aren't any soccer masses. |

This isnt going to make soccer big in the USA. Correct. It's an excuse to party and do stuff, something to focus on during sports doldrums. No one really expects anything from them, maybe the expectations are a tad higher than they were in the past but whatever. BernSTINE makes the incorrect assumption that it's something more and U.S. soccer fans need to be BIG.BOY.SOCCER.FANS. He is, as always, tilting at windmills. He also bragged about his son.........AGAIN. "I don't know the first thing about this super complex phone so I gave it to my NINE YEAR OLD and he set up in an instant!" |
