I don't think that is what he is saying.

He is saying for soccer to have really arrived in our country fans would not be happy with the result of going 1-2-1 in a world tournament. If/when it has arrived fans will expect more and be upset by such a performance.

I think he is right. Germany or Brazil would not be happy by such a performance. But America is.

Is Dan wrong about the soccer thing? I follow every two years, the Euro and World Cup. I'm hardly a die hard fan but I at least have a working knowledge. I was at a restaurant yesterday and people were draped in the flag in the bar area and I heard them talking and they had no clue what was happening. It is just an excuse to hang out and get drunk... This isnt going to make soccer big in the USA.
