Rosenbloom is in today.

Oy vey and by cracky.

Lots of Cubs beat the rooftops talk. I'll be listening.

Anyone else have a hard time taking Dan seriously and believing what he says when he tries to talk authoritatively on what is going on behind closed doors with these Wrigley Field / rooftop owner negotiations?

It's hard to overcome things like "THERE. IS. NO. PLAN. B.", etc.

Backchannels!

Rosenbloom at least challenges Bernstein. Tired of Terry the former wrestler

I wouldn't believe a word that guy says. He has always been so black and white about stuff, and it is hard to separate fact from opinion and bluster. The best way to avoid it, like me, is to not listen.

I think we have established that BernSTINE is simply repeating the talking points of some mid-level PR flack that works for the Cubs. Pretty much the only guy that will talk to him.

BernSTINE = Cubs mouthpiece.

My God you can hear his erection over the airwaves discussing that the really smart lawyers have the rooftop owners over a barrel and that they can't win.

Hate to admit it, but his father works (or at least worked) at the law firm that represents the Cubs so he might know something. I still don't believe it though.

that is correct.

Besides, doesn't Rick Renty tell you fairly clearly there was no plan B?

I was more entranced with his complete lack of defense setting off LeBron on a nightly basis...

Both these guys should start and finish WYC by calling each other out directly.

Rosenbloom: All the past years of taking on Crane Kenney and making fun of him, and yet he's still there and you now speak with full deference. Who you crappin'?!

Bernstein: The Cubs have now put the legal chokehold on the rooftop owners, this time to the next nth degree. As Rosenbloom hint and is obvious, what is the hold up to all that you claim your secret sources tell you.

They can both close it out by stating that they can't name any of their sources, because those sources fear trading anonymity for credibility. Dan speaks as if he's on a cell phone with his Cubs source, Rosey is now holding his tongue because it means one of them have to be wrong.

Again, what a bunch of crap!

Curious Hair wrote:
The Crane Kenney chronology (Chraneology?), as best I can remember, went something like this:

Midway through 2006, Andy MacPhail was already kinda peacing out as president of the Cubs. Meanwhile, the Tribune Company boardroom was in disarray, and whoever usually babysat the Cubs' operations wasn't babysitting them anymore, so someone appointed a lawyer from deep within Tribune Tower to keep an eye on things. MacPhail left after 2006, John McDonough moved up to president in 2007, but more and more, we'd hear about a "Crane Kenney" who had something to do with the Cubs but no one really knew what.

Around this time, Bernstein started joking about "Crane Kenney, International Man of Mystery," whose name would come up in Cubs stories as if he were a big deal without him ever being introduced to the public as such. McDonough bailed after one year to go run the Blackhawks and help them win two championships in four years, then Sam Zell took the Tribune Company private, which led to Crane Kenney being entrusted with more of a day-to-day role. At this point, Crane Kenney revealed himself not to be an international man of mystery but a provincial man of goofiness, and Dan started ripping him every chance he got, just like Murph went after HEEEEEY F-A-I-ELLLL BONK BONK. The picture Dan painted was of some anonymous pencil-pushing schmo who got the magic shoulder-tap to go play with the Trib's shiny toy, and went full meatball because of it. Pretty sure he also bungled some business deals in that time, beyond just wearing baseball pants and calling in Greek priests.

When the children of the corn bought the team, Dan was apoplectic that they didn't replace Crane Kenney, then lost it again when they hired Theo and still didn't push him out altogether, Crane Kenney having been some sort of de facto president between McDonough and Theo. I don't know that Dan ever fully 180ed on old Crane so much as he just waited for the CotC to install enough executives who were to his liking (TheoandJed, Wally Heyward, that one guy named Ira or something who mysteriously went away, Julian Green and his flavor) that he couldn't well blast Kenney for still being around lest Dan impugn all the people he does approve of, who in turn must approve of Crane, who would have been pushed out if they wished it so.

if memory serves crane kenney is a special kind of "full kit wanker" who has his KENNEY cubs jersey complete with pants and stirrups and the whole 9 yards. that went over well with b&b.

Rosenbloom made it his running thing sooner and for far longer.

Not that I've heard, but my listening has been sporadic. I wouldn't bet on it.

Haha, infomercial. I wonder if the games on the subfeed of a local UHF station will be prefaced with "the following baseball game is a paid advertisement for the Chicago Cubs and their inferior performance does not reflect the opinions of Weigel Broadcasting, Inc."

Maybe it will be like the pre-Big Ten basketball games where they were literally begging for donations during the commercial breaks like a PBS telethon. "We need your donations to keep on bringing you Purdue basketball!" They probably made about $45 dollars on that.

the cubs should just go nextshit and get a patreon account going. then all of the "true fans" could speak with their wallet and give $10/month to the organ-I-zation to support them on a monthly basis when babe bryant comes up and makes them worth the sawbuck per month.
