Dan Bernstein ‏@dan_bernstein 10h

Harold Ramis advanced "smart/goofy/subversive" in the great tradition of the Marx Brothers. We in entertainment should appreciate that.

You have all been put on notice....Dan is IN ENTERTAINMENT. There is not even a HINT of modesty in this person.

He is in entertainment.

I would bet me last dollar that Ramis at least occasionally listened to the Score.

In Ramis' terms, I would think he viewed Bernstien as Greg Marmalard or Chip Diller while Dan views himself as being part of the Delta House.

Radio is NOT the entertainment industry. An industry would respect the top and bottom of the industry....please tell me that top directors and producers...when they talk about the industry...disc jockeys and radio talk show hosts are in the conversation....not gonna happen.

On top of that...he can't have it all while maintaining integrity...is he a reporter? a journalist AND entertainer? Once again whatever is convenient for Dan and his ego.

He is not a reporter or journalist. In the journalism world he would be more like a columnist. He is an entertainer, just like other shock jocks

 The funny thing about it- and this is the thing that people like Drop In and Krazy Ivan didn't seem to understand about listeners like me (and I suspect there are a whole lot of us)- is that I do consider dan an entertainer and I am often entertained by him. Most of the time I am entertained by hating him. I don't need Waddle to "break down" plays for me. I want hatred in the afternoon!

Exactly! He's a hypocritical blowhard who lives in a fantasy world. I can't stand his views a lot of days, but that's why I listen! Personally, I talk about him more than any host on the Score. And that's exactly what he wants. If you're a fan of his, just embrace it. It's exactly what he wants.

And he's still a turd.

There's a reason Jackass and Funniest Home Videos were popular shows. People enjoy others making asses of themselves. Bernstein verbally makes an ass of himself daily. It's entertaining to hear how "retard" he's willing to go. Though, like Jackass and FHV there's a shelf life. I've decreased my listening greatly. I think many have as well as the show threads have decreased in length. The occastions they're pages long they're discussions not necessarily about the show (ex: Bernstein's Cubs "source" ignites discussion about burbs vs city).

If not for this board, I probably would have stopped listening years ago. But, I'll listen in because it provides better content for those threads here than the other shows.

If I didn't have an outlet to say/type "that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard" and just had to sit there, I'd get so mad I wouldn't be able to listen.

I had many a long conversation with an inanimate object about how much Tom Shaer sucked in the days before the internet.

Now I type my complaints for review by similarly inanimate humans

There is a shelf life to that sort of radio. The screaming and the yelling just don't cut it anymore. I don't mind sports talk shows where the hosts get in the weeds with some of the technical aspects of sports. They don't have to do it all the time. You don't learn anything about sports from listening to the score. The irony for me is that they (Boers especially) used to rip on Mariotti for the columns that he would write. Their show is the listening equivalent of a Mariotti column. Heavily skewed towards speculation and innuendo, social issues that overstay their welcome, medical talk and backstage intrigue and less about sports themselves. How can you be a sports talk station when many of the hosts love to tell you how they don't like or watch the sports that they are supposed to discuss? I have not been entertained by them for a long time. I can take about 10-20 minutes while riding in the car that is about it. Boers and Bernstein attempt to make you feel like you are just plain stupid for being interested in sports.

While talking about Jim Harbaugh yesterday Berns actually said "you gotta play nice with people". Really Dan? You are the last person to talk about playing nice with people. WYC.

It seems there are two basic types of fans of this show- those who cheer on B&b as they blast callers and those who find B&b obnoxious and ignorant.

As far as getting deep into sports, I don't think there is a single host in this city who is any more qualified to do so than many of the members of this board. And that's really sad if you think about it. The Score used to be fans talking to fans. Now it's guys who are pretending to know more than fans (when they actually don't) yelling at fans.

I would like my sports radio to resemble this board in that the content isn't always about sports, but sports always forms the backdrop for the conversations. But I certainly don't want to be talked down to by "baseball experts" who have no idea who Zoilo Versalles was. There is a certain baseline knowledge that I think a host should have. You don't have to be rabid about all sports but you should be familiar enough to know about the biggest players and events. I'm not a NASCAR fan, but I follow Daytona. I'm not a tennis fan, but I pay attention to Wimbledon. It really isn't too much to ask a guy who is paid to talk about this shit to do so too. I don't expect a host to know that Van Lingle Mungo won 120 games, but I do expect him to know who John Wall is.

Or maybe because even the most ardent of the B&B ALS either don't post here anymore or have gotten fed up and now see them for what they are too.

I agree with you. They don't have to be the most knowledgeable about everything, but what does bother me is that they celebrate ignorance far too much. Boers and Mcneil are the biggest offenders. The score used to be about sports but now its about pop culture, social issues, legal cases, food, family. Doesn't always have to be about sports but sports should drive most of the content.

Please don't use the R-word. Dan also realized that word was becoming unfunny, so they no longer say "basketball retarded."

"Stupid" is still an ableist term, which just shows how this whole thing is a race you can't win.

i was near to that point with b&b and then i accidentally typed in their website wrong and this site popped up. you are right, knowing that there are others that exist that can see through dan's crap, has rejuvenated my want to listen. not sure if thats a good thing.

You really think some of the more erudite posters here would get a fair shake if they called in? as soon as Curious Hair , JORR, Sini started making them look like they fucking dolts they are, they'd get potted down, shouted down, or just hung up on. No way they'd keep them on long enough to make their points. Baby McNown approves of your stance though.
