so this nice older black guy calls up and tries to call out Berns for his love and toadying applause of the Bears locking up Marshall with a long-term deal even though Marshall was prolifically doing lots of abusive things before he got here and then creating Ray Rice as a terrible guy. Berns tried to talk about it, and the guy didn't call him out on it, and now he's on trying to be all social work-y about DV issues. What a dilettante. (As someone who has worked for decades with DV and men who batter, I will share more about how flimsy Berns' info is in some places...) |

the old man had a thing going until he thought hitting a woman was OK under certain circumstances. |

But I don't think woman are exempt from being hit. If one attacks me, I'm going to crack her or at least knock her down, if I can. But that's a little different than beating the shit out of your wife. bernstein had one thing right. If you're a wife beater, you're a wife beater. if you aren't, you aren't. He just twisted himself into knots trying to explain- mostly to himself rather than to the caller, I think- why he supports Marshall and disdains Rice. Because one guy is better at football seemed to be his conclusion. But that's worse than anything Stephen A. said and I think danny realized it as soon as he said it. So he talked around the issue for awhile and declared the guy "a good caller". |

Striking a woman seems so inconceivable to me I am having a hard time imagining that someone capable of it would be capable of redemption. I'm not saying it is impossible, i'm just having difficulty imagining it. |

Bernstein gives Marshall a pass on everything because he was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. |

At my most black out drunkest, I have never been close to hitting a woman... or a man for that matter. I'm a happy drunk. |

Well, like I said, I think bernstein was right in pointing out that guys don't just beat their wives or girlfriends a single time. |

Maybe its because I'm not a big guy or a strong guy but I've never seen the draw in picking a fight with someone. |

If some broad "attacked" me, I'd try and subdue her and the situation. If anyone tried to fight or attack my girl, I'd blast them into next week. Man or woman... |

I treasured that split second moment where Berns realized oh so briefly what a sham he is as a serious person, and how he's just a better-read and snarkier version of Skip Bayless spouting straw men arguments to drive the show. And whether or not Berns (or any of us here) would strike a woman isn't the real point. The same mentality that gives Brandon Marshall a pass as an abuser because of his bullshit personality disorder (which btw even if it is a real disorder which is very controversial in my field, is RARELY linked to a person being a serial abuser like Marshall has been) and the fact that he goes up and gets it is the same mentality that keeps the hyper-violent NFL as popular as it is. Football celebrates violence, and Berns loves it, just like we all do, but like Teeeary, he feels compelled to assume some moral high ground about it when it comes to guys like Ray Rice. "Bears wouldn't facilitate a serial abuser," my ass. |

A clever internet user could easily find out why Borderline Personality Disorder is the key thing to understanding why Bernstein gives Marshall a pass. |

If Hitler was a great QB for the Chicago Bears I would be his biggest fan. Most of us can separate the player from the person. Dan loses me when he tries to tell everyone if they don't see things his way that they are a terrible person. |

my buddy got into a scuffle outside his house. we were in college and some other college aged guys showed up looking for someone and they didn't like my buddies answer. i was in the kitchen and someone was like, john is in a fight. so i go outside and i'm pulling guys off. a little buzzed maybe. well i hear johns sister yelping and screaming no. she apparently came out to try and get her brother and this college aged girl is just pounding on her....she's like 14-15 yrs old. i stop what i'm doing and go over and grab the girl by two handfuls of hair and literally fling her into the street. she bounced off the street pretty good and just laid there. afterwards i told the officers what had happened. she said i punched her and kept hitting her. they said they saw no evidence of that and witnesses story matched mine. i didn't punch her or knock her out but i guess i physically assaulted her but felt i was justified and the officers on scene felt i was as well. i was horrified for months afterwards waiting for a cop car to pull up in front of my house but it never did. |

Zizou wrote: A clever internet user could easily find out why Borderline Personality Disorder is the key thing to understanding why Bernstein gives Marshall a pass. hm. not sure what you mean here--are you saying that Berns is borderline too? that borderline makes abuse understandable? cuz beyond the fact that borderline is overwhelmingly used to label women, it's rarely associated with people who assume an abusive dominant role as BM obviously has through his rap sheet history. and as to whether he's rehabbed or not, I don't know, I hope so, but I just think it's so lame that they trot out the outrage machine for Rice when BM could easily go off on his wife tomorrow...but all our guy does is catch touchdowns. |

Dan's not borderline. Zizou has done this "a clever googler can see why..." thing in the past and I've always come up empty. I'm still a pretty clever googler, though! |

I am not sure if the same guy as I was on bus and got off. The one I heard was trying to match Manzel and Rice . Trying to say Rice you didn't actually see the punch and hes a demon and Johnny party is fine witht he rolled up $20. Anyway, I in no way grant Rice any pass if he did knock her out. And I don't go in the deserved it camp at all. But whatever his wife said she did to make him nuts sure had an effect on Goodell. Do you really think The NFl is gonna release that? No. |
