Coach K: Derrick Rose 'created an air of excitement' at USA camp Joseph Casciaro @JosephCasciaro 2:30 PM Add Mike Krzyzewski to the long list of people who've been impressed by Derrick Rose this summer. Speaking to the media after trimming Team USA's roster, Krzyzewski spoke glowingly about Rose, who missed all of the 2012-13 season after tearing his left ACL during the 2012 playoffs and missed most of the 2013-14 season after suffering a torn right meniscus in November. "Derrick was sensational the whole week. He really (showed speed) every day, how fast and strong and decisive he was. He really created an air of excitement for the team. We were all anxious to see who he was. And who he is is very, very good. We’re ecstatic about it and happy for him," Krzyzewski said, via the Chicago Tribune. Coach K went on to praise Rose's ability to perform at his current level after such a long layoff. "It takes an exceptional person, which is why we’re talking about Derrick. He went right at it. The first defensive exchange in the camp, he was all over the ball-handler, moving his feet, attacking him. There was a buzz right away. He wasn’t just saying, ‘I’m back. He was saying, ‘I’m back at a level that’s elite.’ Derrick maintained that the entire week. We could not be happier about that situation." Mid-summer praise and off-season hype are pretty standard fare in NBA circles, but fans should get their own look at Rose soon enough, as the Americans will play an exhibition game against Brazil in Chicago on August 16 before the FIBA tournament begins on August 30. Rose, Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, and Damian Lillard are the four remaining point guards on the American roster after John Wall was cut. |

Could be genuine, but I think there's something else behind all this positive Rose talk. Not sure what though, but it's too much and comes off as scripted. Perhaps they're just trying to generate buzz about the team. |

Danny is just going to say, if Derrick didn't quit his rehab we could have seen this in the playoffs a year ago. He refused to continue his rehab. |
