Film at 11. Actually Sunday. Now we're on to beating up Jeter. I can hear that kind of radio all day. WYC at 5, we'll see if it's decent again, was tolerable last week. |

Dan's Derek Jeter hate has embarked on it's own farewell tour. I can't wait till Jeter is eligible for the HoF. |

What the heck's wrong with Derek Jeter?!? I'm far from being his biographer but I don't happen to recall anything terribly untoward about the guy. |

Uh, eh, eh, look, uh, eh, I'm not gonna say who, and it's not just one, by more than one guy has told me what a human pile of feces this guy is, but uh, eh, eh, again, my partner doesn't like him because of UZR or whatever statistics there are that say a statue is better, but uh eh, look, for the love of God, I uh, I don't agree with that, i mean again, in point of fact, the man has been a helluva ballplayer for a long time, eh, uh, pretty good, pretty, pretty good, but *SIGH*, look, again, the things I've heard about him personally, uh, uh, no, a bad guy, good at baseball, but just, just, just a bad guy. |

Well I'm all for that last sentence. I'm not interested enough, at least at the moment, to research it, but I have more than a passing suspicion that the complaints about Jeter might have a similar poor premise as the old-timey idiot complaints about Sandberg. I'm unclear why I wouldn't want prime Jeter, perhaps even slightly sub-prime Jeter, on my team, chemical monsters notwithstanding. |

The short answer is Jeter, by advanced metrics accounts, is bad at baseball and actually hurting his team more than he's helping them this year. Dan found a quote from Gehrig (or one of the all-time Yankee greats) in which he said he doesn't want to be in the lineup anymore, that he's hurting his team's chances of winning. Dan is imploring Jeter to do the same. |

Especially when a guy who could cover more was on the same team and relegated to third base. It got to be a joke in New York for awhile with his nickname being Derek "Past-a-diving" Jeter. But the old fan understands there is more to the game than the numbers on a paper or computer screen. Jeter was a key guy in the middle of an infield that won how many championships? Would they have won all those with A-Rod there? Doubtful. He tipped pitches in Texas and Seattle with his sloppiness. The modern fan looks at numbers discusses whether Adam Dunn is a Hall of Famer. The old fan wonders whether Adam Dunn is one of the worst big league regulars that ever played. |

It's like Bernstein is his own "Bizarro Hawk", only he doesn't realize it. |

Dan's point is not without merit; then again, Jeter wouldn't piss in Dan's mouth if his teeth were on fire, so ..... I lost my train of thought. |

I don't know if it's all-time but this isn't the first year he's been on Jeter's case. I think his issue with Jeter includes the debate of Jeter as the all-time greatest Yankee. |

Theres a debate about that? Not that I've heard. You need to be a real special brand of baseball idiot to even entertain a second's thought about it without either laughing heartily or getting enraged at the absurdity of the notion. |

my favorite is when dan uses his favorite phrase "replacement level" for other sports like football and hockey.... even better is when he uses it to describe coaching ability.... |

Theres a debate about that? I think it was last year it was brought up. Another of Danny's straw men. Sometimes I think he searches the comment section on Bleacher Report for things to argue about. |

I can vividly remember that any praise of this play was a waste of breath because every team practices it every day. http://m.mlb.com/video/v3134880/nyyoak- ... conic-flip And this one? Forget about it. Baby Jason was rocking that shit in the crib. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8Yt8r9ybS8 The rest of it had to do with his Bernsie's A-Rod love. |

I really don't mind them killing off the bad ones or the rambling ones, but they are trying to make this hate listen only radio. Stern never did that. He understood the power in it but he was never over the top like this. Someone be it Matty or Tanny etc... Actively reads the boards and just tries to fuel this minority of listeners. Expect more Bob in Niles stuff just because of aloofness. |
