Damage control. CBS generates billions in tandem with the NFL. I'm sure Goodell received the questions two weeks ago.

Also, CBS starts its Thursday Night Football this week. Ironically, the Ravens are playing.

The whole situation is BS. Not sure how they can properly spin it.

Anything that isn't an announcement that he will be resigning will be a complete sham.

I don't know how you can triple abort an abortion but he found a way. Not only has he fucked up a one car funeral, he killed more people in the process. Let's not even address the Gordon thing. Deny the appeal then potentially reinstate him in the same week the rice thing is going on. You compadre done fucked up.

The NFL has a one year contract with CBS--with an additional year option--to co-broadcast NFL games during their Thursday prime time. CBS has put up a lot of money in the hopes of landing the next year, and then more years to come. Some forget that CBS once walked away from the NFL, which allowed FOX to be spawned and put CBS prime time in the ratings crapper. Now they have many top rated shows and Les Moonves isn't about to let history repeat its' self by having CBS not be in the mix.

Talk about the NFL having journalists as pets in their pocket, but CBS is poised to be that network too.

I think people forget Goodell is actually doing his job as hired by the owners. He is going to take the arrows and keep the shit off the owners. In a month no one will care again.

No he's not. If he'd have levied a reasonable penalty to start with, none of this would be happening.

Exactly. The guy who wants the Blackhawks to sever ties with Bobby Hull, never confronts John McDonough when he has the chance. I guess he enjoys the free tickets.

I do not mean he is doing this Rice thing right/well. Keeping owners in the background counting money is his main job.

In a weird way, I think Goodell's new domestic violence laws hurts NFL wives and girlfriends. I think they're gonna be less likely to call the cops now. Cuz we all know that the victims still stay with their abusers. Now these women know that calling the cops will mean their husband is out of the NFL and can't make the millions to support their life styles and/or children, they won't call.

Not sure what is better but I would guess Beardown is correct. They will catch the huge beatings but a lot of stuff will slip by.

Why are we even talking about this still? Rice's hitting of his wife after being spat at was a domestic dispute outside of football and the league isn't the moral compass for mankind, we know that. Bernstein loves his little witch hunts, especially when the NFL Commish is the target, but this is not going anywhere, no matter what Goodell knew or didn't know. He's not the perpetrator, nor is he a criminal judge, so why all the guilt by association? It's a bad story for the NFL any way that you look at it, and Goodell is trying to protect the league by giving it minimal attention. Understandable. The NFL was not at fault in the first place, and passing judgment on the conduct of players in their private lives extra-judicially is really not their business, nor should it be.

Nothing to suggest. Just the way it's gonna be with these women now.

I guess the only hope is that these sons of bitches beat them in public rather than in private. So the cops will be forced to make arrests.

You know how many NFL wives are looking at their husbands with a raised eye brow as they're watching all of this Ray Rice coverage? Cuz many of these wives weren't calling the cops even before this new policy. You know how many of these guys are thanking God that they haven't been exposed? Not that it's gonna stop them. They'll still beat the shit out of their wives if they burn dinner.

Wasn't just Bernstein this time. Was a prime topic on all shows and all channels.

I actually agree with this...wow. Maybe the hope is NFLers will think twice about beating people off the football field so the wife/girlfriend isn't faced with that dilemma in the first place.

That'd be nice, but you're expecting the requisite roided-up sociopaths of professional football not to hit women? ooookaaaayyyy...

What was the reaction from Bernstein, or can I listen to Olbermann tonight for a preview of the show tomorrow?

That's explains why it's called the liberal controlled media.

I don't condone what Rice did, but the woman spat in his face. She was provoking him as a man to retaliate. I can understand why he was upset, when this was his own wife, not just some stupid floozy. He obviously thought it was an act of betrayal and disrespect, which it was, and he reacted in rage by striking her to put her down. It's not different than a crime of passion, explained by temporary insanity. I'm sure he regrets what he did.
