Penn State fans plan ‘Joe-out’ for UMass game Saturday BY LORI FALCE Roll up the cuffs on your khaki pants. Put on your dark glasses. Tie on your black shoes. There’s going to be a “Joe-out.” Wait, what’s a Joe-out? Laurie Anne Stannell, a fourth-generation Penn State grad, wanted to see something happen to show support for late former head coach Joe Paterno. It had to be something peaceful and happy, and something that, first and foremost, said “Joe.” Beaver Stadium has a long history of white-outs to rally the troops for big games. This year, it will be the Oct. 25 game against intense rival Ohio State. In 2011, in the heat of the Jerry Sandusky scandal, the blue outs started, with fans showing support, and raising money, for victims of child sexual abuse. The 2014 blue-out will be Nov. 29 against Michigan State. But on Saturday, as Penn State meets the University of Massachusetts for the second home game of the season, alumni and fans like Stannell and others want to see Paterno everywhere they turn. “We want to make an impact, as Joe would say,” Stannell said. How fans do it is up to them, she said. A cardboard figure of the longtime coach, a Joe mask, a JVP hat. For many on social media, there are plans for things with the number 409, the total wins for Paterno’s coaching career before 111 victories were taken away by the NCAA as part of Penn State’s post-Sandusky penalties. For some, it’s the kind of opportunity they have been awaiting. “He will forever stand as a great founder of our university, shoulder to shoulder with Atherton, Beaver, Pattee, Sparks and more. There will be other coaches, other presidents, other trustees and great men in Penn State’s future, but that does not mean we should forget this one man, who made Penn State great. My family and I eagerly await the future — but we will never forget to honor Joe,” said Susan Beck Wilson. As a vocal segment of the alumni community now calls for restoration of the wins after the NCAA’s repeal of bowl and scholarship sanctions last week, there is a response from some that people are clinging to the past and not letting go. That isn’t what the Joe-out is about, enthusiasts say. “Of course we are moving on,” said Stannell. “We love Coach Franklin, but we have a legacy here with Joe. He brought our school to a world class institution.” The event isn’t sponsored or sanctioned by the university. Stannell said it is also not meant to be spiteful or negative in any way to anyone. “It’s honoring our past,” she said. “We are Penn State. If that’s not JoePa then who?” Read more here: http://www.centredaily.com/2014/09/15/4 ... rylink=cpy |

This Penn State story is one of the most bizarre and sad sport stories ever. A legendary coach who was revered decided to turn away from what was going on right in front of his face. |

How long until the Score King has this hipster phony "Right Side of History" crusader on? Former Viking punter after tearing a hole in his shorts and making a joke about former Penn State assistant Jerry Sandusky.... “I realize that a lot of people found my joke in poor taste, which I’m sure was the entire purpose of the Vikings leaking it. Character assassination is a tried-and-true tactic for any sort of harassment lawsuit. But it’s something where I was making fun of the culture at Penn State, and if it offended people, then I apologize. I’m sorry for that.” |

Sigh. The good news: the article mention it is "alumni and fans." Also, I have seen nothing from students about this. In fact, this is the first I've heard about this idiotic idea. |

I know the show already started, but on a quick lookover of Dan's twitter feed it seems like it'll be pretty much another child-rearing show. 8 of the 9 tweets are about the NFL issues, the other a mention of Urlacher. I'm not even bothered they're going to talk about it, since it is news and all, but I also won't listen. |

That's all well and good but unless they actually pull some advertising dollars out it means nothing to the NFL. |

How could these guys possibly think that AP will never play another down of football again? Unless he is going to jail for a few years he will play again even if he somehow got suspended for the season. He is not Ray Rice football bad yet. |

So. In the south, per Mary Mitchell (and countless others, particularly from the 'community'), it's tradition for "whoppin's" to occur. It's understandable, if not outright excused, because of tradition. Apparently years of tradition. Pop did it. Ma did it. Gramma did it. So on and so forth. I just think it's "funny" to juxtapose that sort of "thinking" with another long-time southern tradition of whoopin' slaves. Just a thought I had. |

No chance in hell does he never play football again. He'll be back again. |

How do you spend time with your kid if you're out at the club sipping on domestic beer and eating something that's not vindaloo? Act like me and spend quality time with the "kid" and the girl that apparently also lives here and nothing bad will happen. |

You know, Hollywood and the music industry aren't exactly pure as the driven snow and there are plenty actors, directors, and musicians who have histories of domestic abuse and sexual abuse. Are the same people who are all gung-ho about boycotting the NFL also going to boycott movies, music, and TV? It seems pretty clear that Michael Jackson was molesting children, and Tupac, who people love, was convicted in 1994 of 1st-degree sexual abuse. The judge described the crimes during the sentencing of Shakur to 1.5–4.5 years in prison as "an act of brutal violence against a helpless woman." |

That woman admitted to blowing Tupac days earlier in a club. His story (false accusations based in jealousy) is as believable if not moreso than hers (the rapper who she blew in public raped her days later). I guess we'll never know, but its definitely not open and shut |
