danny loves telling everyone about the goings on at Wrigley like he lives in Wrigleyville. I dont consider West of Western Ave Wrigleyville, but thats just me. Got enough of him today telling people he has driven by and sees big equipment, machines, etc ...work going on. Yes, they are working on the street at the corners, and it is some infrastrcuture, but nothing more than has been going on for a couple months now and NOTHING in the park. Walked by today and there is just nothing happening inside. Toyota sign still up as well. They put up a fence around the entrance. Thats the big change I have seen. This is from 2 PM....where is the activity Bernsie? |

Take away one of the cherry pickers and it looks exactly the same as it has for the last 5 years. |

Godfella wrote: You call that work? LOL I saw lotsa guys walking around in helmets, with plans behing the fences,...and the few crews outside on the streets have been there since the offseason. If anyone has been on Ashland, about 3330 N. Across from Whole Foods, that is real construction. My guys there put up a building in about 3 weeks, roof goes on next week, they have 55 guys on site, getting everything done. Maybe Monday they will start. But Danny saw all the big equipment and bags of concrete being moved in....are his exact words.....like they ran to Home depot and bough 100 bags of concrete! Hey danny, they get concrete trucks delivered for the bigger projects! |

If they replace bleachers with some composite material of the wrong shade of color will it ruin everything? |

You may eyeroll, Mike, but I don't see how many of the same people who have denigrated and ridiculed Comiskey Park II for years can suddenly turn around and act as if a ballpark is incidental. |

That was my point Jorr. I could not stand another comment of my fellow Sox fans bemoaning blue seats. |

I like Comiskey 2. I told my wife the 1st time we take the kids there will be the last time they'll want to go to Wrigley. |

agreed. I went once to Sox park and I'd never take young kids to Wrigley, I'd take 'em to Sox Park. Wrigley is just not a kid friendly park. Not to mention the complete availability of cheap seats no matter the standings. |

Actually they took out a few rows, being ready to take down the wall on friday. The point is they are doing this with these small projects, that are less than the Sox do with my money every offseason and your guy bernstein reports some big things happening like "Guys bringing in bags of concrete".......because they are mixing bags of sakrete on site? When construction STARTS, I will tell you. meanwhile the home depot projects are in full go ahead mode. |

I remember Mariotti writing about how his kids preferred Wrigley and laughing because it was such an obvious lie. Either that or they were told they were supposed to like Wrigley better. Wrigley was never special when everyone had an old ballpark. The thing is, it's now one of only two left so it is special. Everything isn't always about creature comforts. This is a version of the same argument in favor of watching football on television. It's easier. It's more convenient. So what? Is the pursuit of convenience always the overriding motivator in your life? For a lot of people I suppose the answer is yes. Wrigley Field is a romantic notion as much as it is an actual place. It exists in people's sepia-toned memories of things that never actually happened. But there's a lot to be said for that. And the next generation is likely to be deprived of their own phony memories in lieu of video replays and ubiquitous advertisements. |

Is someone surprised a kid would like going to the cell better? Actually that last game, I got the request of 'don't they have anything for kids here?'...I sent them to Clarks Clubhouse of Horrors. I dont know if anyone goes in there, or it was the last home game and they needed to empty it out, but they came back with the motherload of swag. Backpacks for each of them filled with t shirts, stickers, balls, dolls, stuffed animals. Might cause some internal family issues but I think the cubs bought9bribed) 2 new cubs fans. |

As wonderful as Comiskey Park II is, it was built with a lack of foresight and ingenuity. Comiskey Park II, which opened in 1991, cost $167M to build. The trendsetting Camden Yards in Baltimore, which opened the following year in 1992, cost $110M to build. As great of a sports town as Chicago is, this town has not been at the cutting edge when it comes to building dynamic sports facilities. |

Reinsdorf needed to learn how to build stadiums on someones dime. Of course I don't want to beat a dead horse and probably don't know anything about it, so Seacrest will take it from here. |

Both stadia had/have more skyboxes per capacity than most other stadiums. Which is why aesthetically they are shit. |

JR had Camden style plans presented to him. However they did include the number of skyboxes he wanted so he went with the 1970s look. There are still boxes unfinished today due to lack of interest. JR has done some great things in this town but the people who defer to him on every thought are foolish as he has made plenty of bad business decisions |

There was nothing wrong with Comiskey Park's design in and of itself (I mean, other than the vertiginous upper deck, which they fixed). Symmetry and curved lines as ballpark design principles are highly underrated. It just so happened that the new thing was the downtown-integrated civic-themed stadium. There's nothing wrong with this. Yeah, maybe the seats should have been grey or Old Comiskey green instead of Dodger blue, but that's what you get when your owner has to mention GROWING UP IN THE SHADOWS OF EBBETS FIELD every time he so much as passes gas. I don't like many of the U.S. Cellular renovations. If y'all hate "The Shrine" so much, what's all that green shit growing on the batter's eye? If people who go to Wrigley Field aren't there to watch the game, what's FUN-damentals all about? |
