Seriously - he says dumb shit daily, but he should NEVER get let of the hook for specifically making fun of the fact that a man lost his leg to diabetes (and ultimately lost his life to it).

At one point, Dan's JDRF source even said that their board of directors hoped Jay Cutler would become a positive role model for diabetic athletes so they could distance themselves from a bad role model in Ron Santo.

many people that have the beetus dont need their legs chopped off. Santo had that happen because he didnt take care of himself.

He also played in the major leagues at a time when disclosing his diabetes would have meant an almost certain retirement. I struggle to begrudge him a less-than-perfect lifestyle.

Dan and the rest of Team Bernstein have defended making fun of his amputations by saying that he only lost his legs beacuse he drank too much, and that if had been a responsible diabetic, he would have kept his legs. What Dan shouldn't be let off the hook for is not being funny about it / moving to new material. Lazily calling back to a bit that's many years old and not even related to anything being talked about is just lazy and hacky.
