5 hours of banging Joe Maddon yesterday. Almost killed Terry. Dan made Joe to promise to call him. Dan was crying.

Today they will hit on all of the WONDERFUL and SMART things that Joe said that they didn't cover yesterday. They will discuss if Joe wears boxers or briefs and wonder aloud if he drinks his coffee black or with cream and sugar.

Quote:
As the new Cubs manager described his recruitment — a meeting outside his mobile home, parked at a Florida panhandle beach, Theo Epstein joked, “We’ll always have Pensacola.”

Epstein’s not much of a comedian, and it wasn’t particularly funny, but the reference was notable for another reason.

It was a nod to “We’ll always have Paris,” which Humphrey Bogart’s Rick Blaine says to Ingrid Bergman’s Ilsa Lund in “Casablanca,” part of the climactic scene before she boards the plane to Lisbon with her husband. The line was ranked No. 43 on the American Film Institute’s list of “100 Years…100 Movie Quotes,” joining four others from that script, the most of any one film.

The writers won the Academy Award that year for Best Screenplay. They were Philip and Julius Epstein, Theo’s grandfather and great-uncle.

Somebody else said it: Bernstein makes fun of the media in the South for fawning over the college coaches. What is Bernstein doing as a sophisticated big city talk show host? Same thing. Probably worse. Good God, he's no different than a school girl with a crush on an actor. I'll bet he doesn't show the wife this much affection, adoration and love.

Bernstein: YOUR PETS ARE NOT YOUR CHILDREN. STOP TREATING THEM AS SUCH. VERY CREEPY.

Beardown: Correct, oh great one. JUST LIKE JOE MADDON AND THEO EPSTEIN ARE NOT YOUR WIFE. MORE CREEPY.

Typical BernSTINE thought process.

Jewish man+upperclass upbringing =Born to Succeed.

I bet BernSTINE thinks Theo's life mirrors his own.

What a pathetic little troll.

I agree. BernSTINE is quite a little shit with a big mouth. could and never would back it up. But thats his personal life and not really our business.

However, when he starts ruining my Sports talk station. Thats an issue.

Terry's presence there is all the keeps Bernstein from going to WLS or WGN and taking calls from elderly people all day arguing with him.

during the search it wasn't a necessary pre-requisite to have a former head coach. Didn't they bring up a list of former head coaches who went to a new team and did nothing?

Now it means something?

After all the yelling and berating of callers who made the slightest suggestion that there was any kind of problem with Cutler, is dan really now going to characterize Cutler as "a problem that other teams gave up on" in order to further his bashing of Bears management? Really?

We got A.REAL.DAM.QUARTERBACK. was what Dan told the masses after he came to the Bears.

I texted them a couple of times today - no response:

- the talked about hits v. misses on Theo's work. Kris Bryan is a 'hit'. A guy who hasn't had a MLB at bat is a hit? He may be or he may be a bust. Or he may get hurt and never be the same again ala Pryor. Bernstein then went on to talk about the saber metrics crap and the 'success' of Oakland. Dan always talks of the 'everything else is failure unless you win a championship'. Umm, Dan, what exactly have the Oakland Athletics won?

- Also talked about the 'locker room' and that the team has quit on Trestman. Ok, and they know this how?

The more you listen, the more you realize that 90% of what they do is present speculation and opinion as fact. It's intellectually lazy and they clearly don't entertain dissenting views. Just do their 'bits' - replacing a developmentally challenged man 'bit' with a south side brotha who says 'hot garbage' and isn't remotely entertaining.

Give it up guys, South Side Mike isn't a 'thing'. He's not entertaining in the slightest.

I caught a little bit of their routine today and they were going on about how the Western Conf. Is far superior to the East because they have teams that play above the rim. Huh? Memphis Golden State Portland San Antonio Houston really don't play above the rim. They have some guys that can jump but that is not the reason the west is superior. You can find just as, many athletes on Eastern Conf. Teams. The reason that the West is better is because they're teams tend to be deeper talent wise. It's not because of they have a bunch of guys flying above the rim.

He's so analytical that his self described method to determine weather a prospect will make it is in sitting down and talking with the guy. I believe the name of that stat is Sitting and Talking with the Dude or STD.

I tuned in late so I couldn't tell if they were joking or not, but Terry was going in pretty hardcore on the Bears needing a proven coach. A known quantity. A BIG NAME. Which if they weren't joking, and Matty made it sound like they were, then they're going to need a reminder of the Jan 2013 shows.

Also: proven coaches cost money, and the McCaskey's consistent unwillingness to hire one would suggest cheapness. But that'd be a pernicious myth.

As I caught (what I believe) some of this, it struck me how on some matters they speak authoritatively about ownership and how they operate and on others it seems they take a finger-in-ears, eyes closed, yelling "la la la" to avoid addressing or understanding obvious questions or observations that are presented or postulated. The Bears haven't hired prior head coaches in part because they believe the position to be a privilege and honor to represent them, a charter NFL club. Also, to not have to deal with someone espousing their theories and practices of what may have worked for them in the past. They aren't alone, as the Steelers (another family owned franchise) doesn't fire their coaches and hires those who they deem worthy, not a retread. Unproven and offered a unique opportunity the money becomes something that is suggested as an afterthought, "win, and you'll get paid."

When are people going to give up on thinking Cowher, Gruden, and Dungy are coming back to coaching? When they die? Cowher's been gone about 10 years now. Who else, besides Dick Vermeil, came back to NFL coaching after more than a couple years absence?
