I would add LinkedIn to the list. A few years ago, I made the mistake of joining LinkedIn and connecting with people that I was working with at the time.

For the next few years, I was getting emails everyday from headhunters, unsolicited advice on how to improve my business, lists of people who Linkedin thought that I should connect, work anniversaries of people I hardly knew, etc.

I was never able to delete my account. But spamfilter keeps me from seeing most of these emails.

as an employer I use linkdin for a specific purpose. I've come to the conclusion only 2 types of people really use it. old people. you know those old people who try real hard in your community college class? Old people love updating their linked in accounts. we have a few people over 50 at work, all of them religiously update their linkedin account. they fully participate…endorsing everything and everyone under the son. If I go look at my endorsements, they are all from only old people. and I don't even do half the things they endorse me for.

the reason I use it is because the only other people that use it are people actively looking for a job. When I see any of my people updating their linkedin, I know they are about to leave and I'm usually right. the last year or so I've been able to either fend off good people leaving or be able to get rid of employees sooner. obviously there are other indicators a good employer uses but this is just one helper.
