he can just pull a bernstein and say that pace had to evaluate marshall as a player and after some proper up-close evaluation of the player that he changed his mind and decided to jettison him. the point that spiegel is trying to make is that marshall isn't officially out the door yet, whereas bernstein is telling us that the decision has been made and marshall is gone but since there's so much nebulous grey area between now and whenever they can cut players both sides will be able to claim that they were right about this, and of course there's no way we could ever know this unless we talked to george/ted/pace.

...and then we have to assume they're not lying to us for PR purporses, so you've always got that too!

670 The Score isn't a news service, its sports media. It's entertainment. Maybe people relied on it for information 15 yrs ago, but digital media and sites like PFT are the main source for information now.

I'm not sure it matters if a report turns to be inaccurate, so long as its nor far-fetched. Its sports talk radio, not sports news radio. It's a blend.

Then he just does a bernstein and says, that the decision was made later and hadn't been decided at the time. THINGS CHANGED!

What Dan was saying is that there really wasn't any reason to get so bent out of shape about it like Grimace did. Grimace kept citing the "Agree with me and you'll be smart" comment Dan made. When did he say that? Like 4 weeks ago?! And it was kind of a joke comment was the way I took it when I heard it. But it's been under Grimace's skin (and what a considerable space that is) for a month, some innocous comment Dan made, and he boiled over because he's an oversensitive bitch. Bernstein is right.

I'm sure it was mostly theatre to get people talking about a flagging midday show.

yeah it's not about whether or not marshall stays, it's about dan being a condescending ass to his cohorts @ the score. spiegel trotted out the angle of "talking down to a 16 year veteran of the bears" because the whole thing is about bernstein automatically assuming he is infallible (try shoving him off of a cliff and see where it gets you!) and talking down to everyone there like they're incorrect schoolkids who need to be educated by professor beerstain.

I don't see the implausibility here:

1. owner wants him gone
2. owner hires new management and tells them you are in charge BTW would really like Marshall gone.
3. management says OK, I'll see what I can do, maybe we can trade him for something, but I'd hate to just cut him and eat the salary
4. Ownerships says OK, see what you can do.

I'm new here but I've listened to all these guys for years going back to the beginning of The Score and have lurked here for years too. You guys don't seem to like any of these characters but I knew Spiegs once upon and thought he was a decent guy and have always enjoyed Bernstein's shtick. Not anymore, this is all just bad radio. Bernstein screams at people that agree with him as much as he screams at people who don't. He just screams. Spiegs whines. Done with all of them. What's enjoyable about any of it?
