I guess it's a good thing the Ernie Banks news broke after the show wrapped up for the week. Could have had some good stuff about how Cubs fans only like non-threatening blacks, or that everyone is being too maudlin. |

Could have had some good stuff about how Cubs fans only like non-threatening blacks, or that everyone is being too maudlin. speaking of cubs fans and non-threatening blacks, i remember going to the gary dell'abate (bababooey from howard stern show) book signing with my brother, who was more of a stern fan than i was and ended up purchasing booey's book and whatnot. there was a fairly sizeable line that we did well to end up near the front of, so we only had to wait ~10-20mins to get the book signed along with the obligatory picture of my brother and bababooey and etc etc. as we were nearing a front of the line this black guy in a full cubs uniform approached, and just like i expected i saw the WOO WOO lettering on the back of the jersey and i was like "oh no, here we go" as ronnie woox2 tried playing the "do you know who i am?" card to immediately get to the front of the line to have his moment in the sun with bababooey. naturally all of the suburban/ish white people who were waiting in line didn't have the gall/gusto to say anything to woox2 as he calmly glided past all of us all the way up to the book-company/store people who were running the event, and when he got up to them i was close enough to hear him literally say "do you know who i am?" to the retort of "uhhhh no, but i think i've heard of your name before. regardess, you'll have to buy a book and get to the back of the line like everyone else if you want to do the meet-n-greet with mr. dell'abate" and suffice to say ronnie wasn't exactly too thrilled to hear that, but to his credit he didn't go and cause a scene or anything. this actually happened right as we were 1-2 people away from getting up to the table where gary was at, so i got to answer his question of "who the hell is that guy?" and extol the legend of ronnie woo woo to a diehard mets fan who otherwise would have no idea why some goofy-looking black dude in a full customized cubs jersey was thinking he was a VIP who should get perks like not having to wait in line with the great unwashed (oh the irony...) to get his moment in the sun with bababooey. maybe this belongs in the "brush with fame" section, but i suppose we could have a proper debate on whether ronnie woox2 is truly "famous" or "infamous" with me personally leaning towards the latter. but yeah TLDR = none of the almost-100%-exclusively-white-people in line weren't about to leave their comfort zone and engage the crazy black dude who was attempting to cut in front of all of us cuz like, hey don't they hire security for that sort of thing? DO YOUR JOB! |
