by cracky Disregard UNC's violations, because we're not here to talk about Dean Smith, the basketball coach. No, today is Dean Smith, the humanitarian. Try to keep up. Don't do you dare speak ill of the dead* *except for all those times we've danced on others' graves |

I also loved Dan's rationale on why he didn't think Smith was involved in the academic scandal: "All of the violations occurred in the program that Smith actually started" Yeah Dan, there's no way a college basketball coach would come up with a bogus major to keep his players eligible. It's such an honest profession. |

why is the B&B show discussing a sport they've told me is inferior and useless to follow anyway? I want them to give me information from their Orlando guy on the Bulls post-game locker room: http://www.basketballinsiders.com/nba-a ... rick-rose/ This is gonna be a bad couple of weeks: ONE STEP CAMP POKER TIME SIGN UP |

The room is smaller than last year - less seats to begin with, but tickets are going fast, make sure you sign up, there's only a few left...and the radio show will turn into an infomercial over the next few weeks. It does seem like a great cause, but having your mouth piece go out of his way to be a jerk doesn't make a lot of sense. |

"Dan, with regards to your radio persona, do agree that it works against your charity poker event in terms of attracting people?" Someone should also craft a well-worded WYC for thursday, drawing the Dean Smith to Tim Beckman angles. |

Well, I guess he's a host, and technically he's more "entertaining" than Mike Murphy or Lawrence Holmes, but about dead even with doing your taxes. |

He also backed Dan up on a couple of questions. Using the "I wouldn't go that far" after Dan asks a trademark, too long, leading question. |

Quote: Someone should also craft a well-worded WYC for thursday, drawing the Dean Smith to Tim Beckman angles. How so? well, in the base sense, Terry says today that he's disregarding Dean Smith's wins to talk about his other work. Tim Beckman comes on, and is admittedly a poor coach and a dunce, but they distill coaching down to "just win baby" when he's the subject. You can't have it both ways. Unfortunately I'm not smart enough to take it any further. |

But does Tim Beckman have other work? I mean, Dean Smith is obviously as much a major figure on the civil-rights side of sports as he is the performance side. What else can you judge Beckman on but what he does in his capacity as coach? |

Dean Smith cared deeply about graduation rates and his players academics and that is great. Bob Huggins cares nothing about graduation rates and his players academics and that is great. How can both of those things be true? |

He's a major father figure for these kids! eh, it's not worth it. But maybe someone smarter will pick up the TORCH. BIG BEN. |

The only reason anyone knows who Dean Smith is is because he coached basketball. Shut up, dumbass Terry. |

Big-league swing and a miss on this hypothetical from one of the members of the Email Club. "Could Dean Smith be hired today? I say no, because social media would be too critical of someone who fought segregation." But that supposes that social media wouldn't have been critical of de jure segregation in the first place. Look, we know the South sucks, but sometimes you gotta let the South suck itself. |
