"It's not about race. This was not racist."

Rosie today. Bernstein and Boers all week. I'm sure the rest of the whites at the SCORE were doing the same. Granted, Larry said the same thing. But that's only because he's gonna say whatever Bernstein says on all issues.

It struck me as disturbing. These middle aged white guys. Most of them don't have any black friends. Most of them have never been to south side. Except for a Sox game. But that's only to the parking lot and to the gate. Then run back to the parking lot and leave quickly.

Literally yelling at black people all week "IT'S NOT RACISM. WHAT DO YOU KNOW, ABOUT THIS DUMB ASS? I'M A WHITE. I'M THE AUTHORITY ON THESE THINGS."

Like most white people who speak with an air of authority about race, Dan's understanding of the subject ranges from adorably ignorant to aggressively offensive.

Take the rest of the day off.

Unchain her and take her out for Valentine's Day.

Dan reading that Rex Huppke column and sneering out "You're. Not. Champions" was more than a little weird, and not just the usual weirdness that comes with proudly reciting someone else's writing.

Most insulting/funny quote of the week came from Terry Boers. He actually said this.

"I know racism. This isn't racism."

Yeah. Had to be tough for whatever the hell this is and his like growing up in the 1960s.

To be fair, Terry grew up in the south suburbs. Isn't that as good a place as any to know racism?

I guess in a sense you're right. He was taught to be a racist in the south suburbs. So he knew what racism was from that perspective.

I have a new theory on racism.

Whenever the vast majority of white people say something is racist, it isn't.

Whenever the vast majority of white people say something is not racist, it is racist.

Especially when it's THE SCORE's dumb ass white people saying either. Then the theory is foolproof. No exceptions. 100% accurate.

I'm not absolving the players here. I was a 12 year old ballplayer once, and I knew damn well who was a ringer or not. It is ignorant to assume that these kids are dumb to such matters.

You aren't 12 anymore.

Darold Butler came up with a rigged map with the help of Mike Kelly, the local LL rep.

How would a kid know that the map, which was used during the entire play off process, and was LL approved, have known otherwise?

But if he were 13 now, it would explain so much.

And yeah, you can't blame the kids on this. This is all on adults.

I would think people that grew up apparently as Terry did or I did for sure know a ton more about racism then those in Deerfield.

I think Mary Mitchell writes a lot of stupid shit and she says some stupid shit in her column today, but she addresses the history of boundaries and the reasons for boundaries in particular situations and why black people might not have the same feelings about or respect for artificial boundaries as a white person. These things are so far outside the experience of most white people that repeating "rules are rules" over and over and over again just makes more sense.

Quote:
Frankly, the very idea of a “boundary” is enough to anger blacks who grew up in Chicago.

Boundaries were set up to protect the status quo and to impede the inroads black people were making in previously all-white neighborhoods.

Boundaries ensured little white children didn’t have to go to school with little black children. And boundaries were put in place to make sure middle-class whites didn’t have to live next door to poor blacks.

If a south-side black kid tried to go to school where Dan's son goes, maybe Dan would be like "Rules are rules, and you broke them. You. Can't. Go here." Or, better yet, he'd get Rex Huppke to write it and then read it out loud.

I don't know the complete history of Jackie Robinson West, but I might make a wild guess that at least part of the reason the league exists is that the fathers of the kids that are the point of contention wouldn't have been very welcome in the Evergreen Park league in the 60s or 70s.

The main argument has been if a white team did the same thing no one would give a shit or try very hard to find out.

As I said in another thread. If the Oak Forest Little League got as far as JRW and afterwards the mayors of New Lenox and Mokena were throwing parades for their kids on the team. Someone definitely goes after them.

Yes Conns. LL idiocy transcends race for sure.

Here's the bottom line. What the SCORE did this past week set race relations in Chicago back 25 years. The horrible whites at THE SCORE should all be ashamed of themselves.

The station's neoliberal slant of "we're the ones brave enough to treat you like adults (by scolding you like children)" probably wasn't what one would call progress, no.

If the rules are biased in their results, why haven't they been objected to in the past?

i couldn't listen to the jackie robinson fallout shows this week. it was just too much argh and a reminder of why talksport and mp3s exist. not to mention i don't give a flying fuck about the little league world series winners and if a team from the field across the street won the damn thing and had a parade to celebrate it i'd likely get pissed that they were causing too much traffic in my area.

the only legit laughs i get from the show outside of the increasingly-rare old-timey silly tangents about nonsense are when i hear dan use a buzzword like "optics." otherwise, man, it's just a rough go when dan's on his soap box telling me what it is about something like this.

It is pretty laughable that someone from deerfield thinks he knows about race relations. I can speak from my own experience of growing up in a western burb and now having worked in the south suburbs for many years.... racism (both whites not liking blacks and blacks not liking whites) is present in the south suburbs... and that dynamic is something that you cant possible experience in deerfield/lakeview areas where it is not diverse
