Dan, Terry and Sir were discussing the use of vacation days during transition. As expected, Terry uses every minute of his. Sir felt it was a matter of losing compensation if he didn't use them (and I agree). Dan said he never used all of his because he loves his job.

This is the guy who bitches about Bears Mondays and Cubs-Sox crap.

I think he loves his hours and compensation. I don't think he really loves his job description

I think he is scared he will lose his job one day.

WSCR is habit forming. Not like smoking, well maybe, but listening to the same people and learning personality is comfortable for many to just hear the same people daily. That person might not be a great listen but showing up and being there creates a level of comfort that I could see many Score listeners enjoy. Hey, its why people go to McDonalds, you know what you will get and when you will get it.

It is one thing the midday show should probably learn.

I know many have said it but "90% of success is just showing up"

...especially when there is little competition on the airwaves. It has been said many times, but this thought still bears repeating: We have reached the nadir of radio as a form of entertainment.

I think he also likes acting like a jagoff without the risk of getting his teeth kicked in.

i will never get over not trying to call up and crap philip daniels for saying nothing.

you see, after he left the bears he ended up on the redskins for the year that sean taylor died. when the redskins needed to either win-and-get-in or win-and-get-help to make the playoffs, they won by 21pts which also happened to be sean taylor's uniform # and philip daniels beat his chest and proudly decreed "YOU THINK THAT'S BY ACCIDENT?!?!"

well the next week in the wild card round of the playoffs when the redskins lost by 21pts which also happened to be sean taylor's uniform # philip daniels said........ nothing.

HEY PHILLIP, YOU THINK THAT'S BY ACCIDENT?

so philip daniels, who ya crappin?

WYC is worse than the 10 Seconds of Glory. I honestly thought they might shotgun the entire bit for good after that one time when they killed the segment after 2 craps and did "Score Hello" for the next 20 minutes. But Dan says it does "good numbers" (probably pulling that out of his ass), so... I guess the only thing that will bring it down is a crap boycott. How bad does it have to get? If I was Tanny, I'd punch the "Homer Booooo" drop instead of "Hey Buddy" every time the segment was mentioned.

WYC sucks because of the callers, always remember that! They arent prepared, they arent witty and fluent!

Its not the shows fault, its the bad callers! You guys suck, stop calling

so a once good segment is now awful but it stays on air because numbers indicate people still listen.... sounds just like a TV show that just celebrated it's 40th anniversary.

Those are the same "numbers" that account for the PSU/CTE popularity.

I think Dan is a miserable person and likes to yell at people that he believes are stupid. That means everybody. I don't think he has anything better to do than go to work. He's not going on guy weekends, seemingly has no hobbies or anything he enjoys. It's a little weird they don't do family vacations or anything. Bigfan is probably right about him being insecure about his job in some ways.

There is probably something to this. Listening for years, I assumed Dan's anger towards callers was a bit (a funny one, at that), but just watch him work. Watch the webstream. The constant expression on his face can only be described as "disdainful boredom." Terry looks bored too, but at least he seems like he enjoys living. Dan on the other hand, I think has serious mental problems that drive him to lash out like he does. He's got a supervillain gene, I'm telling you.
It's entertaining, either way.

you know what i think he's really insecure about? that he does bullshit male yenta sports talk stuff for a living. being a jewish dude means that you're very likely well acquainted with some REALLY. SMART. PEOPLE. who are doctors lawyers architects real estate people or you know "the fans in the good seats" who take pride in avoiding upper-deck riff raff. if i may be allowed to stereotype jewish people a little bit, very often they tend to be very very successful at their endeavors in life and some would argue that on many levels that they indeed "rule the world" (if such a thing was even truly possible") --- so with that culture around him, i would think that dan probably feels some shame in not like, you know, operating on some 5 year old with a tumor or saving that very innocent wrongly accused guy of offing his mistress in a freak multiple gunshot at close range accident. or politics finance economics etc etc.

i think it'd be fair to say that from what i've perceived jewish people often place a bit more emphasis on "doing well/good in life"
than most, cuz again, seriously, you gotta give a standing ovation to the achievements of jewish people over the last 50 years or so because while they might not "rule" the world, i'd say that i'm pretty damn sure they "run" it.

so up against that ingrained level of expectation, not to mention innate competitiveness and of course a dukie education, dan had all the ingredients to do one of the more stereotypical jobs that REALLY. SMART. PEOPLE. do (he'll call himself an idiot and/or a dumbass but we know what he really (wants to think) / thinks of himself) but instead he ended up on this goofy ass path to doing b&b.... so that's where i figure REALLY. IMPORTANT. RADIO. came like back in 2011 when he took the bold stand that child rape is bad and wrong and we need to know that even if it takes a whole damn month to tell us. he raises money to send fucked up kids to camp, and if you know dan you know he's one of those "camp" guys who i've always wondered what kind of formative life first-time-experience he had there to evangelize it so damn much [softball for any board comedians] and i think also he sees it that entertainment is important for the general public cuz they need their release from a long day @ the 9-5 or 11-7 or 9pm-5am or whatever they work, and since they like sports well hey how about he upgrades them from being a dumbass meatball who doesn't have the optics right into a REALLY. SMART. SPORTS. FAN. who understands the metrics and the theories and the formulas and what to watch for (i bet you're a simpleton who follows the ball when you watch NFL games. for shame. HAS DAN TAUGHT YOU NOTHING?!?!? YOU WATCH THE LINES FIRST AND FOREMOST! AND AT HOME CUZ ONLY IDIOTS GO TO NFL GAMES" and etc etc

in the end, i think he tells himself that he's genuinely helping out his chicagoland swarth of humanity as a whole by increasing their enjoyment of sports through understanding things THE RIGHT WAY (read: his way) and since all of us need some sort of escape/release from our daily grind/hustle/jobs/lives/etc and i'm sure dan would tell you that sports is escapism, once you factor in all of the charity stuff and social justice pandering and etc etc at the end of the day i bet you he sleeps pretty damn well because he's convinced that he's making a difference in people's lives, just not as ostentatiously/directly as the guy who gave you that bypass surgery or that guy who helped you avoid the hook for tax fraud or, of course, the guys who own your favorite spoirts teams. duh.

also once again i would like to apologize to anyone i offended for stereotyping jewish people as inordinately smart and successful people who quite possibly run/rule the world. if i ended up being racist/bigoted here at least i can claim it's like being racist/bigoted for saying i think black guys tend to be cooler than white guys by default because it's a lot easier to kick back relax and have a lil fun with life's day to day banalities when you know that you've got a footlong cock there to offset those nagging insecurities about yourself. c'est la fucking vie, no?

He loves bringing up fishing terms and flaunting his acumen. It's a way for him to associate himself with masculinity and to slum it up, so to speak. Look at me I'm not really a spoiled rich kid with a bullshit job! I engage in the activities of the middle class! I wouldn't be surprised if all of his fishing trips involve the use of a well paid guide.

Oh boy, Ethan Skolnick is on to talk about Chris Bosh! Party like it's 2013.

Did anyone else hear Dan brimming with glee that TheoAndJed gave Anthony Rizzo a prepared statement to read about how the rooftops can fuck themselves?

Dan just let Ethan Skolnick get away with saying you don't need a superstar (Real. Ass. Player.) to win an NBA championship.

This is 100% correct...the 'Ashamed" thing not correct. Maybe if he was a Tax Attorney at a top law firm making $1-$5 mill a year, but thats not a shameful issue.

If I didnt know where I was going I would use a guide, but my fishing trips are day trips and I retire to a suite. Tents are over rated.

Dan Bernstein Reads West Side Mike is like the same premise as Fred Huebner Reads Rap Lyrics.

...masculinity...class!

well hey, since we're speaking about masculinity classes, did you know that i happen to teach them?

i can't spoil some of the trademarked techniques guaranteed to keep me away from the upper-deck riff-raff for the rest of my life, but i can give you a little taste of how we roll during the boot camp part of my patented "ManU" curriculum (btw zeez, do you think that name is catchy at all? ManU for Manliness University?)

during boot camp you will become accustomed to running down icy sidewalks in 0 degree/s weather while smoking cigarettes slamming soda and of course bumping inspirational music on repeat-1 at max volume

now if by the end of the mandated 20min sprint you're not feeling like you just picked up the quad damage in quake, welp, i think i can refer you to the artist formerly known as immessedup17 for some much-needed sensitivity training =D

so yeah, who's up for the challenge? who has what it takes to meet the insanely high standards of ManU ?? alls i know is that you have to be overvalued, overpaid, and of course adverse to working on thursdays if you wanna cut it at sini's ManU. oh and not being a scot with a wonderful impression of a deer in the headlights helps immensely too.

SERIOUS APPLICANTS ONLY E-MAIL YOUR RESUME AND W-2 FORMS TO EMESSIAH@SMOKE.DOPE.ORG
