David Diehl isn't afraid like Bernstein.

Or maybe Dan is talking about this explicitly, I wouldn't know unless someone here told me first.

Just post it here, Reared.

Chris Kuc probably knows about it but didn't report it. I think media in this town is soft, but they are kid gloves soft when it comes to the Hawks.

No question. We should have the kind of hockey media Toronto has, though it bears mentioning that Toronto is the fourth most common city for the big bitches that are NHL players to veto trades to.

When Boers brought this up yesterday he said he hadn't talked to his Hawk guy yet.
How does he have a Hawk guy?
He (and his partner) know little about the Hawks.
I don't think they have any "guys" in any of the local sports.

The only Hawks guy they know is McDonough when he gives them a free jersey in the suite they take their kids to.

Don't be so fucking modest. The spmack brand is well known throughout Chicago sports media.

Deadspin had it, I believe. The most common places where players don't want to go are Edmonton, Winnipeg, Buffalo, Toronto, and Ottawa. Florida, Phoenix, New Jersey, and Montreal are also places that players will avoid at all costs. Hockey players are so tough that they'll skate on a broken leg, but too sissy to live where it's cold in the winter. (Or too hot in the case of Phoenix and Florida.) Go figure.

Terry and I should have the same Hawks guy....but dont know if Terry stays in touch with him...
Bernstein can call Adam Rogowin, is who he calls when he needs tickets, but dont think Rogowin would tell him anything.

Bingo. They're afraid the teams might move to Canada.

Quick: name a big-name Canadian who signed with a Canadian team in free agency.

Phoenix growing way too fast, not losing a team.

No one wants to play in Toronto because their media is the capital of hockey #hottakes. They'll ruin your career if you slump. Montreal is similar but I believe their media and fans secretly hate every player on their team who isn't French-Canadian.

They were 15 minutes from heading back to Winnipeg in 2010 if not for Glendale giving the NHL $25MM to stay another year.

Phoenix is there to hedge against high-revenue teams.

Good question. Nothing pops right away but Europeans have gone to Ottawa.

Europeans generally don't care. Everything is equally Not Home, and if anything, places like Winnipeg and Montreal are easier to settle into than Phoenix or Dallas. Winnipeg and Quebec City were on the vanguard of incorporating European finesse players at a time when old NHL teams were largely apprehensive. Detroit probably reminds Russians and Slovaks of old Communist Bloc shitholes. They play there then go home in the offseason and in retirement and that's just the understood agreement. (Though come to think of it, Thomas Steen was an MLA or city councillor in Winnipeg, and some of the Stastnys still live in QC.)

But Canadians not only run screaming from their country, they become dual citizens and live in the States in retirement. Wayne Gretzky is voted the Greatest Canadian Ever or some shit. He's lived in Los Angeles for years. Some Canadian! But when the Olympics roll around, they're all as Canadian as can be. Then they go back to preferring to live in Florida just like anybody else would.

Did you see the ticket drive they're having in Las Vegas? They sold 5,000 tickets in 36 hours, then 2,000 in 14 days. Winnipeg sold 13,000 in less than ten minutes. But we gotta get in on this Vegas thing.
