Done with this talk at least.

Hey, do you think Hub will confront Bernstein about his false Cutler reports in tranny? Probably not. Hub shies away of confrontation when it's face to face.

if history is a guide, Dan's not going to back down and I'm not sure Hub's going to back down but reading Hub's comments makes me think they're not necessarily disagreeing. I think Hub's saying they never had a chance of it happening, not that the Bears didn't necessarily want to get rid of him.

Maybe not. But Mortenson and Hub took aim at Bernstein's report of "They're going hard in trying to trade him" a couple of days ago.

Hub took this shot at Bernstein.

Knowledgeable analysts have reported for 2 months Cutler Bears QB in '15. Nothing's changed. No story here. Pace took time 'cause he could.

Terry said "Fitzpatrick has made a lot of money doing nothing."

Hmmmmmm, who does that sound like? Like $500,000 annually nothing?

Dan can't wait for the press conference with the new smartest guys in the room.

Wait a second. Just the other day Bernstein said he would bite the cap hit bullet and just cut him. Just to start the culture change right damn now. Now he's scolding a caller for saying he wants to cut Cutler. Telling him HOW DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND IT. IT"S ABOUT MONEY.

Post subject:  Re: 3/11: Horrible things happen in and around sports

I thought he had been pretty consistent on not cutting Cutler. That was his viewpoint when I called.

I heard him yesterday or the day before say "I'd just cut him and be done with it."

But it wouldn't effect the Bears cap. Cuz you'd replace him with Clausen making nothing and get a back up making less. So yeah, you'd have dead money cuz the signing bonus gets pro rated against the cap, but it would be made up with the actual money you're not paying Cutler. Whatever his base salary was for this year. What is it? Like 16 million.

Is Dan gonna tell this guy talking to speak with his mouth open?

Author:  Beardown [ Wed Mar 11, 2015 2:06 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: 3/11: Horrible things happen in and around sports

Like with Marshall. He was gonna make 7 million. Cap hit was 3 million. So it's a net 4 million dollar cap room gain for getting rid of a player you don't want.

If it's like Bernstein says, and they don't want Cutler, why wouldn't they do the same?

Bernsie did say that yesterday BD.

"Is the brass gonna talk?"

Dan's gonna be pissed if they picked up this press conference and didn't get to carry any smart people.

Dan and Terry are adamant that even if Jay were to have a "career year" this coming season, it doesn't matter. He won't be their QB when "things matter."

No B&B talking over at all. Not even bitching that they are not really saying anything.

I bet Pace is better one on one. He sounds like a sputtering clown in front of a crowd of people.

They are trying to draw something from Fox's comments or lack of. He is an old school gruff guy and will not tell you what he means or knows in any way genius.

I suspect that is a edict handed down from CBS: No more clowning of press conferences. It was hilarious when they would interject and throw drops in, although it could be annoying during the very rare press conference when I was actually interested in what the guy might say.

They got a couple "who you crappin'" drops in today, but nowhere near the full MST3k treatment these things used to get.

I would kinda doubt that; what little I listened to I heard at least two drops (one of them 'WYC').
(edit: Okay, fine, what CH said)

This is like more a case of this being the really. smart. Bears brass talking so there's not exactly a planned goldmine of folly to be sought after. Now, if they had that dingdong from Denver giving a 10-minute talker, the drops would be flowing with the possible exception of wanting to quick get a clean 'cookie' or two from it.

That said, a presser like that is not good work listening ... maybe I'm lazy but I'd much prefer someone (accurately) distill the damn thing for me.

Since Jay will be here in 2015, has Dan said that the information he had about him being traded was correct at the time to explain why the rumors never came to fruition?

They haven't "talked over" press conferences in a long time. I really miss the MST3k style riffing. e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnxV88Zfi2k

I always find the press conferences more entertaining when they are gratuitously using sound drops over the sound of these idiots talking.

There has never been a sports press conference unworthy of ridicule. They're always awful no matter what.... in no small part because sports journalism is a human centipede of pointlessness.
