Would Sarah Spain, Kerry Sayers and many like them be in any better position if their success were based on the quality of their work?

Women like Michelle Tofoya would undoubtedly make the cut. However, doesn't that kind of highlight that the aesthetic takes a backseat when a person performs well?

The same question can be asked of the entire Score staff.

:)

Ratings only measure a given radio show's strength in relation to its competition. They do not comment on the overall decline in radio listeners, a problem that plagues the broadcast industry and is in part a product of horrific programming--such as the Boers and Bernstein Show.

Like the Rev. Watkins could have said here(or as TM did say): "(they) don't have to get better, everyone around them just has to get worse". I don't have the numbers but I firmly believe that while their share of listeners has increased, the number and quality of actual listeners has fallen. The falling salaries of the on air staff would seem to support this as well.

Does anyone else think there will ever even be another $500K salaried employee there after Boers' rumored deal expires?

I've only sampled Aiyana Cristal's work a couple of times, but those instances led me to conclude that her employment as a broadcast journalist was a reflection of her hot body, not her reporting and communication skills.

This whole "controversy" is permeated by cynicism given that some of Bernstein's loudest critics are female sports broadcasters who willingly and often gleefully capitualte to patriarchal ideology--through self-obectification, the cultivation of a sexualized on-air persona or both--and are most certainly aware that they were only hired in the first place due to their willingness to participate in a sexist culture.

As Laurence mentioned last night, the patriarchal ideology begins in college for many women. Being told they aren't pretty enough leads many to avoid TV altogether. And the shit they hear about locker rooms leads many other to avoid radio as well.
