They got conned and look foolish. I seem to remember Danny proudly saying that the Bears are now playing "big boy football" after trading for a WR from the Dolphins with a record. Now they are stupid for taking a chance on a guy with a record.

Didnt Danny lose his moral high horse in the Comcast Wars of 2015?

the signing was questioned originally as something that a rebuilding team didnt need to do... why sign risky player with limited upside for a team that doesnt have real championship asiprations? Now that he already got arrested they rightly cut him.

I don't get the big deal here. I mean you can argue it wasnt worth the risk... but other than a short term PR hit there was legitimate upside at getting a skilled 3-4 end at league min salary with no guaranteed money at risk if he screwed up. Prior to McDonald getting cut when was the last time you thought about past bad guys like Hurd, Tank Johnson etc.? The only time those names come up is when a bear player gets in trouble. Every team has bad guys that do bad things from time to time. I dont think the fans really care about hiring bad guys to play football, and as long as the sponsors dont care about giving 2nd/3rd chances to bad guys.... the league wont either

I'm just glad the Cowboys don't sign or draft "risky" players!

Agreed! The big deal would have been if the Bears were even debating on this....mountain meet mole hill!

It wasn't the signing itself. It was the stupid awkward way they tried selling the signing.

"We called his parents!"
"He bought his own plane ticket!"
"Alleged victims have bias so we didn't need to ask"

Compare to Cowboys and Hardy. They pretty much were upfront and said he's good and we don't really care.

I personally dont care if the Bears sign 11 guys who played at Joliet State Prision last year.

But dont tell me you called their mom and some old coaches to see if they are good people.

Compare to Cowboys and Hardy. Jerrah was pretty honest and said he's good and came for cheap.

And was the signing really necessary? Everyone tried covering their ass.
Pace - uh, Donatell and Fangio vouched for him. Plus George said it was OK.
George - uh, we called his parents! They said he'd behave. He told me he'd behave. And Pace has final say.

Holy shit, they said this?!? Even by football standards, that's gross. As Señor would say, George McCaskey stepped in it, comma, badly.

Quote:
Q: George, did you dig into the legal system context with the lawyers who were involved with these incidents? And specifically with the sexual assault case, did you reach into the accuser’s side there and try to contact them?

McCaskey: “I didn’t. I don’t want to interfere with any league investigations that might be ongoing. I did speak with a couple people at the league. They couldn’t offer me a lot of information. But I thought that was an important element to cover.

“An alleged victim, I think—much like anybody else who has a bias in this situation—there’s a certain amount of discounting in what they have to say.”

How could GarPax be so dumb to think Thibbs wont get a job next year if they simply wait until current vacancies are filled up?

Tune in at 1:30 and Dan is saying that yesterday and today are bad days for Bears' fans and Score callers because they are so dumb about the Ray McDonald issue.

...and don't read the Twitter responses to Julie DiCaro's article!

Stupid fans!

I look forward to similar descriptions on the podcast posts: "this hour, Dan and Terry deal with terrible callers who make everyone feel bad" oooh! what a must-download!

Also don't GarPax's actions directly undermine Dan's point that Thibs is merely an assistant level talent? Why do you fear him going anywhere else if he's so bad for a team? I can understand waiting around in the hopes that someone gets desperate and unloads greater compensation, but any other justification just makes this front office (yet again) look petty.

On the one hand, you don't want to look back and find out you were one player away until it's too late to do anything about it. It's the NFL, things change quickly. On the other, the Bears handled it like the amateurs they are.

Today was a good day to opt out and cozy up with the record collection. Either Dan is full of shit and People On Twittering his way into taking a stand he doesn't need to take, or people really do take the player's side and the world is a terrible place.

Be a meatball and you are wrong. Whack your cock off to a Mad Max remake and you are in the correct column.

Well, the Mad Max movie is one of the 5 greatest action movies ever, so yeah.

Agree on the originals but the larger point is you can be a meat ball dork if Dan also likes the thing in question.

I'm a tad surprised that Dan didn't say he had never heard of the original Mad Max.

Not sure what's worse, Terry kissing Lebron's ass or Danny and his wine promos

you'd think if anyone could understand that a person could be good at his job but still reviled as a peen, it'd be Dan Bernstein.

Cropper is still with us, at least until Spada gets a hold of him.
